I didn't want to go. I didn't know how much more obvious I could make it, but I just didn't want to go. We were stood in my room, Kell in going through my bag that was on the floor as he searched for something to wear. He didn't feel like going all the way back to his house to get dressed and he thought I might have something for him to wear, but let's be honest, I have more t-shirts than actual nice, dress up shirts.
"Do you ever wear anything that's not a t-shirt?" Kellin asked, dumping everything from my bag.
"Why are you complaining? I never asked you to go through my things." I said.
"But I need something wear." He whined, I rolled my eyes.
"Why not wear what you have on? It's perfectly fine. Besides, I'm sure Vic would careless if you went to that stupid party with a trash bag for clothes." I said, Kellin grinned and bit his lip.
"I really like him, ya know? With Matty he made me dress up in nice clothes when we went anywhere, and I guess that sort of stuck." He told me, plopping down on the bed beside me. I sighed and stared at him.
"He's not Matty, Kells. Like I said, I'm sure you could walk into the party with a trash hate for clothes and he would still like you, and I have a feeling he's going to like you even more when you give him that Green Day album." I said, he bit down harder on his lip and smiled widely before sitting up and continuing to rummage through my things.
"So, have you talked to your dad anyway these past couple of days?" Kellin asked, pulling out a t-shirt from the dumped pile of clothes.
"No, but Aunt Melissa has." I told him, messing with the bedsheets.
"Oh? And what's he said?" He asked, but then his jaw dropped and he glared at me. "Why do you have my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt?! I've been looking everywhere for this!" He shouted.
"I was going to give it back but I forgot." I said, Kellin at me more and tossed it away from the pile. "Anyway," I rolled my eyes, "she said that dad's been taking up more shifts at work and just as I thought, he gave mom close to a thousand dollars to get her back on her feet." I said.
"You're kidding? Do you think he's going to try and get her back?" He asked.
"I hope not," I muttered. "Because if he does, everything will go right back to how they were after she brought home the first guy. She'll tell him that she's been trying to change but really hasn't, dad will believe her and forgive her and in a weeks time, when dad really trusts her again, she'll do as before and begin to drink and bring home guys. It's a never ending cycle, and always...always, dad's going to believe her lies and get hurt every single time."
"Maybe this time'll be different," Kellin said, I shrugged. That's the one thing that I doubted. Dad was always a sucker for mom's lies, he believed nearly everything that came out of her mouth, and the one thing he didn't believe was when she said she was never coming back.
I didn't say anything as Kellin continued to search. Maybe he was right. Maybe for once dad wasn't going to be stupid and allow mom to come back. Maybe for once he was going to listen to what people were saying, telling him that that woman wasn't best for him, but maybe he'd do as he always did; ignore them. I don't understand why mom even stays around in the first place. It was obvious she didn't care about him or her children. She probably can't get anyone else and stay loyal to them for more than a couple of years.
"Alright, I think we can go to the party now." Kellin said, walking back into the room. I honestly had no clue he even left.
I sighed and stood up from the bed, pulling on my shoes. Kellin happily skipped down the stairs, the now wrapped CD held to his chest. I followed behind him as we left from the house. Everyone was asleep considering it was ten o'clock at night. I had already told Aunt Melissa that we were going out tonight but instead of telling her about the party, I just made up some lie that we were going to see some movie.
