clocks are people too

the clock stood still.
not a breath, not a blink.
not a wriggle of a toe.
not a scratch of a head, nor an itch of a nose,
not a hum, not a sneeze.
not a tiny single sigh.
not a clench of a jaw, nor a flicker of an eye,
not a wish, not a dream.
not a sentimental longing
not an original idea nor a sense of belonging.
not a knife that couldn't cut the wall of tension in the room,
and with a defeated huff,
the clock began to move.
