As I stepped in the Police Department building I was greeted by Matsuda. He was easily noticeable with his 'new-guy' attitude from the crowded building.

"Goodmorning , Kurosaki-san." Matsuda said in polite tone, scratching the bad of his head as he walked by my side.

"Matsuda," I greeted back, "how many times must I tell you can call me Ayame. No need for formalites our age difference isn't that far."

He's only 25.

"Gomesan," he said bowing down his head chuckling nervously. "At your age, you've success so much since starting here. Even the Chief agrees . Handling cases, your skills, you'd make an amazing detective. And I just joined the field."
I gave a smile, Matsuda does have a cute side.

Oh ho you've got an admirer, Ayame

Mentally glaring directed to the shinigami behind me. Holding myself I talked to Matsuda.

"Please don't do that it makes me uncomfortable, Matsuda. I appreciate your words but I am just another member of the task force." I don't like the spot light, I just love my job but does lead to unwanted jealous workers.

"Yes your right. I apologize for that." He said chuckling, scratching the back of his neck. You can't hate Matsuda, he's like a puppy.

Practically see a tail,' Mugen mused.

"Even if he apologizes, his claims are true. There is no doubt of your skills, Miss Kurosaki." A voice said behind me. I turned and faced two new comers.

"Ayame is just fine, Chief Yagami", I said smiling at both the Chief and Mogi.

Chief Yagami was the one who recruited and recommended me in officially joining the task force. For me to complete all my studies and requirements in less that two years . I owe alot to the chief, especially for the incident that happened years back.

My thoughts were almost lost if Mugen hadn't placed his hand on my shoulder.

*pat* *pat*

I was walking beside Matsuda as we follow both the Chief and Mogi. They were in deep conversation.

As we stepped into the Special Investigation Headquarters, the chief told to come by his desk.

I dropped my bag on my desk chair and made my way to the chief.

He gave me small smile but I could see how proud he was. The recognition was there.

"Another case you solved has been a success." He stated. "Figuring out the pattern of the rapist would strike, your deductive skills amazes me."

"I'm glad. But Chief, this was your case, I was just pulling my weight around here. I only wished I figured it out it was sooner." Giving a small smile.

"Don't be down. You got it, we were able to capture him before others would have face similar fate. Because of you , others would be safe. You'd make a fine detective." He tried to console me, I nodded. "I do wish you were there for the arrest. I would have credited you."

"You there was enough", I said, bowing down , waving the Chief.

Turns out the unknown rapist that have been targeting young women in the kanto region was actually a man who was already charged with sexual harassment. He was currently unemployed from claims of female co workers at his last job reported. Going to those charges I realize both parties had a similar target of women. I was able to solve who would be his fifth target.

Justice took place.

"Thank you, Chief ", I bowed down to him and I headed back to my desk.

"Heh another one accomplished by her."

"She's just a child."

"I swear sometimes she seems to figure the crimes too quickly."

"Your right, maybe she's behind them."

"A mastermind, even."

These hush comments I hear but hold my ground for no effect. I rolled my eyes as I took a seat at my desk.

My computer, case files (completed) , cup of pens and most importantly my jar full of lollipops.

I grabbed a green apple flavor.

How childish their thoughts of you Ayame. Hehehe Mugen chuckled.

I nodded sucking on my lollipop. My thoughts exactly.

After moment going through my files it was time for my lunch break. Reading does make time go quicker, going through files that need my approval before submission to HR. And playing tick-tack-toe with Mugen, on an empty notepad, Mugen points his turn, when we're bored. I bid a goodbye to the others and chief as I made my way out of the building. Mugen was quiet when we left, mostly we converse when its empty or not at all,he doesn't mind. I headed to the café that was a few blocks away.

I was only a block away when I saw a familiar tall figure with light brown hair and wearing a school uniform.

"Light-kun!", I called out happily. He wasn't alone couple of guy friends were with him.

When he heard my call he turned my direction and a smile formed across his face.

"Ayame-san", he replied back. "Is it your lunch break now?"

"Yes, I assume classes are already over for you three. Oh! I'm sorry my name is Ayame Kurosaki", I bowed politely to Lights friends.

Both his friends started blushing when I straighten myself back up.

"Keigo Asame"

"Sado Kurosutchi"

They both replied in union but I was able to tell who they were.

"Guys, she works along with my dad. Also one of the best detectives in the task force. We've known each other when I was younger, she's actually tutored me " Light explained smiling as he turned to me.

"Like you ever needed it, Light. Too smart for your own good" I smiled slyly at his compliment.

We caught up as we sat in the cafe, I treated Light and his friends, Light mention he has his practice exams coming up soon for state wide test. Which I have no doubt he can pass. I grew close to Light through his dad, he's like younger brother, no doubt he follow his dad's footsteps. I smiled at the thought.

My hour break was almost over and I parted from them. Mugen was talking mentioning stopping by the market on the way home after my shift was over. Soon we were back at the station, and I was seated on my desk. Taking out once more a lollipop this time a cherry one. Unlocked my screen saver checking on emails.

'Lets play hangman'

I smiled at Mugen's suggestion, half an hour pass and he wants to play, I complied.

Just another day in the office, I thought. Days like these are dull.

Little did I know that was soon going to change.
