I don't know what to think at this moment. I mean, I think I'm over it. But life is full of lies and heartbreaks and challenges. You told me that once... But since you don't know, Levi lied to me. He has a girlfriend. A freaking girlfriend. What kind of sick perverted guy does that?
Has that ever happened to you ma? I mean, you can't answer me but I bet it did. Maybe Papi broke your heart in the beginning. I'll ask him. But I spent Monday and Tuesday crying. It's alright to cry, just for a day or two then you got to move on. You know? Of course, you know..... Well anyway, now I've got to plan the Twins' birthday party. It's the big 16. They wanna do something big, something that'll distract them from you not being here.
I'll try and keep on writing in here. Love you!
...
I kept the pen on the page, the dot to the exclamation point a bit exaggerated. I looked up from the journal, the pages wide open. I was looking at a picture. A picture of my whole family, my mom with the widest smile and everyone laughing. It was the last family picture we took before she died.
I wiped a tear from my cheek, no matter what day it was. I always seemed to think of my mother. It was inevitable really.
I shook my emotions away and sniffled lightly. "Alright, Koral. Let's get through the day." I said to myself as Miguel yelled at me from downstairs.
"Koral! Hurry up! We are going to be late!" Miguel yelled loudly.
I groaned and closed my journal, putting it in my black purse and heading downstairs. "Coming coming. Jeez, you won't be late. Come on." I grabbed my keys and smiled over at Abuelo in the living room. "Bye! I love you!"
"Bye!" Both Abuela and Abuelo yelled from the living room, big happy smiles on their faces.
Miguel and Manuel were already in the car as I got in. They stared at me while I put on my seatbelt. A few seconds went by and they were still looking at me. I groaned frustratedly. "What?" I looked at the both of them. "Stop looking at me like I'm some hurt puppy, I'm fine."
I put the car in drive and drove out of the garage and to their school. The car ride was silent until we were waiting for a red light to turn green.
"Koral?" Manuel asked softly from the back.
I sighed softly and looked at him in the rearview mirror. "Yeah?" I smiled weakly.
"He's a piece of crap, Koral. He let you believe that you two had something. In my opinion, he's a real dirt bag." He said to me as he rolled his shoulders back. "If I ever see him again, I'll punch him into next year."
I laughed softly. "Okay, Manuel. Calm down. He was just a fling. He used me, I sort of used him. I'm over it. I've got more important stuff to deal with. The chief for Manhattan Hope Hospital wants to see me for a job opening as the head Neuro-Surgeon. So I've got that to do."
Manuel smiled. "Good. Mami would've been proud of you." He patted my shoulder.
Miguel looked at me from the passenger seat. "You need to talk to him, Koral. You need closure. If you don't you're just gonna repeat saying you're fine and eventually you won't be."
I raised an eyebrow at my little brother. "Since when did you become a love expert?" I asked curiously as I pulled into their school.
"I googled heartbreaks. Just talk to him okay?" Miguel asked with his big brown eyes.
I groaned. "We shall see." I couldn't say no to him, he's the cutest little boy I've ever seen. "I'll see you guys later!"
Manuel and Miguel both jumped out of the car, running inside as the bell
rang to get into class.
