Percy's POV.

   Percy's first instinct said cyclopes.
Usually his instincts were pretty accurate, but this time they were off. He couldn't blame them though. The guy sitting at the table had a similarity to cyclopes well enough.
He was African American and his scowl was as legit as a Cyclopes'. His gaze was firm and disapproving, like the sight of Percy made him angrier. Though as far as Percy knew, he was the one that wanted to see Percy.
There was also the fact that the guy had one eye.
Percy found it was easy not to stare. Maybe he was used to things by now but Fury had one cold dark eye staring intently at Percy. The other one was covered by a eyepatch. Maybe a pirate Cyclopes?
   "Perseus-" the pirate Cyclopes started.
   "Percy," Percy immediately corrected.
The guys glare deepened. "Percy whatever. Do you know who I am?"
"I'm gonna guess Director Nick Fury."
Fury arched an eyebrow looking surprised. "That I am. Do you know why you are here?"
"Let the kid sit down, Fury," Steve interjected before Percy could respond. Percy shot Steve a grateful look. Though after all he'd just been through, he didn't feel like sitting. Despite all that, Percy sat and that six Avengers sat too. Percy found Thor at his right and Steve at his left, which Percy was also grateful for. Because so far these were the two Avengers at the moment Percy felt he knew the most.
"You are here," Fury continued. "Because I have a proposition for you." He paused, like he was waiting for Percy's reaction, which Percy did not give. He was used to that by now as well. "We would like you to join the Avengers."
Everyone in the room looked at Percy. He felt like they were waiting for him to jump up, be excited or whatever. But Percy really didn't care. "What do the Avengers do?" Was his brilliant reply.
Everyone, besides Thor and Steve, looked dumbstruck. "Well," Tony started.
"No!" Clint shouted. "Don't let Tony explain, he'll make it sound like a bunch of hippies gathering for a peaceful protest."
Tony stared blankly at Hawkeye. "When have I EVER made anything sound like that?"
"Last week when you tried to describe the government trying to make a decision about how to handle something," Natasha said looking bored.
"Oh. Right. Well I won't make the Avengers sound like that. Pretty much, we come together when the world needs us or there's a supernatural force we need to fight." Tony turned to Clint. "Was that good enough?"
   "I could've done it better."
Tony was about to say something back when Fury cut him off. "The point is..." He looked expectantly at Percy. "Are you in?"
Percy thought of his options. There were only of two, duh. He could say no, but where would he go? He couldn't stay at Montauk forever. And he didn't want to be near the sea. He couldn't go to either camp of his house. Percy thought if he told his mom what had happened, something might change. She would think he was at camp.
If Percy said yes, he could start a new life, with new friends. He could try to move on, and not be in the Greek world, but still do what he did best. But there was a nagging in the back of Percy's mind. "Why did they want you?" They shouldn't even know that he existed!
"Why do you want me to join?" Percy asked suspiciously.
Everyone looked at him wide eyed. "Because-"
"Because you're simply the best at what you do!" cried Thor, interrupting Fury.
"How do you even know me?"
Fury tossed him the file and Percy's face felt hot as he read about his mistakes. "Okay, first off, I wasn't even aiming for the school bus, and how was I supposed to know it was loaded? Those fires at school were NOT my fault, and I didn't mean to hit that lever. And lastly, why do you keep a file about me, that's just creepy!" Percy protested.
Clint laughed. "It's what SHIELD does, kid."
"Fine." Percy snapped. "I'll join." And that was it. No one jumped up, no one said yee haw or anything. Fury nodded grimly. "You can go." Percy stormed up and stomped out of the room, confused by his own anger.
Percy figured he was angry because all his life it had been one danger after another. A snake in his bed, a Cyclopes stalking him, and then all of his quests. Percy had experienced danger. He had experienced fear. And now he thought he could have a tiny break. Just a small little time of relaxation.
But of course, the Fates made his life suck as much as possible.
Percy had to do another dangerous job. And he was almost positive, that the gods had something to do with it. Even if the Avengers didn't know it.
Percy had no clue where he was, maybe a living room or something. When there was a hand on his shoulder. Percy's arms twitched, his first instinct was to judo flip the guy. Instead Percy turned his head and found himself face to face with Tony Stark.
Percy tried to hide his shock.
   And epically failed.
Tony didn't seem to mind though. "Figured it wouldn't be me?" he said grinning. "I guess if I were you I'd expect one of the philosopher ones to try to calm me down."
"I kind of figured that too," Percy admitted.
   "Then aren't we alike?"
"Except the fact that your about a million times smarter then me. Most everybody is at least smarter."
"Hey don't feel that way," Tony assured him. "Anyway, I just came here to give you the tour. You see, unlike the others I think. So, I figured, one, you wouldn't want to talk about it. And two, if you're going to stomp off, you should know where you're stomping off to."
Percy found a grin creeping up on his face. He was beginning to like Tony, even though he first thought he was arrogant and annoying. Maybe he was, but maybe he had different faces.
"So, unlike any other Avenger, that would come over here to try to calm you down, I'll just give you the tour so whenever you want to storm out, you know where your storming off to," Tony concluded.
"A tour sounds cool," Percy said.
"Alrighty then!" Tony exclaimed dramatically. "Welcome to Tony's Amazing Tour of his Tower! Please keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times. Please feel free to ask questions whenever you want. Our first stop, ladies and gentlemen, is the elevator!"
"Maybe I would've wanted a psychological talk," Percy mused.
"Yes, you would've," Tony agreed cheerfully. "But I think you'll at least enjoy the elevator. After all, not many people get to ride in my elevator!"
