I Don't Belong

One

The little bit of sunshine peaked down on top of your head as you were seated on the sidelines. You inhaled slowly, taking in the details of your surroundings. Camera lights flashed as crowds of people cheered on the other competitors. Cotton candy, pretzels, nachos, and many other intoxicating aromas filled the air. You turned your attention around towards the stands. It felt as if everyone was there, cheering you on. Your adoptive parents, your older brother and sister, your younger sister and even some friends decided to show. Joy and excitement seeped through their familiar faces as they watched the competition, occasionally glancing in your direction to give you a thumbs up or an air fist.

"Do your best, [y/n]." Your coach said. You grinned in response and nodded your head. Your best friend Hiyori, stood behind you, slowly creating a beautiful ponytail upon your head. You guys had met when you started training for the event. She had been on the sidelines, closely inspecting the competitors from the school. You heard a group of girls snickering at her and making sly remarks. Being who you were, you went up and confronted them about it. The group of girls brushed you off, which annoyed you even more. You may have gotten a detention, but teaching them a lesson was all you cared about. They eventually apologized and never bothered Hiyori or you again. Ever since then, she's always come to your practices and every one of your games to watch and motivate you.

Hiyori was kneeling in front of you, now, with her hand on your lap, which snapped you back into the reality. A slight blush crept upon her face as she looked at you nervously. "I got this for you" she said, reaching into her pocket and leaving your lap, "I thought you'd like it." Intertwined between her fingers was an elegant [f/c] ribbon with both of your initials on it. It blew alongside the ever growing wind as you examined the ribbon. She got up and tied it in your luscious [h/c] ponytail , making a perfect bow. When she finished, you got up and hugged her tightly. "Thank you, Hiyori. I love it." She nodded and pushed you towards the stage.

"Now go out there and show them how [f/n] [l/n] rolls." You smiled nervously at Hiyori before you heard your name being called by the announcer. The announcer was awkwardly dressed, wearing a black dress shirt and a purple tie with jean shorts, green and orange socks, and muddied brown sandals. You walked up to the two different sized bars and readied yourself. The song [f/s] started playing in the background as you counted down in your head. '3...'  Rain began sprinkling down as you tightly gripped the smaller bar. '2...' A look of determination was plastered on your face as you waited for the fake gun to be shot, starting your performance. The light sprinkles of water turning into rain. '1... !' The gun was shot and you started swinging, gracefully looping around the two bars. Thunder cracked loudly in the background, which made you slip a little, but you held onto the bar tightly. You were now in midair, about to reach for the smaller bar before an intense unknown pain filled your back, and you were forced onto the ground. You tried to look up from where you were, but was immediately shot back down by the immense pain in your body. You shifted your eyes, barely looking up, you saw the frantic face of your best friend come closer to you. She mouthed words that seemed unknown to you, as you couldn't hear what she said. She reached down towards you, your family also huddling close to your small figure. Pain was written about her features as she stood above you. Even in the rain, you could tell she was crying. You forced a smile upon your face, to reassure her that you were ok; Then everything turned black.
