Shawn's POV
I can't believe I just said that out loud. Laken is already going out with Matt. She probably thinks I'm some freak who can't take a hint. I can't believe this happened. I should've seen this coming. Pretty girl. Two guys. One hilarious blonde who can make your darkest days brighter. Or the shy songwriter who can't get his words straight when he speaks. The choice is obvious. I should've never put myself out there like that. My thoughts were interrupted by Laken's soothing voice. "Shawn?" Laken said. "Hey," I responded half heartedly. I turned myself around because I didn't have the guts to look into her gorgeous brown eyes. "Shawn, are you upset with me? Because if you are I'll just leave you alone." I didn't turn around. Which probably would've saved me from what she said next. "It's okay. I understand. I'm never good enough for anyone. I should've never thought someone as great as you would put up with me. Why do you think my mom took a nose dive off our balcony last year? I keep telling myself that it's not my fault. But it just doesn't work. I'm not meant to be here. She is." By now I had turned around and I was looking at the most perfect girl ever opening up and sobbing in the process. "I'm sorry. I'll just go. I just wanted to make sure you were okay," she tried walking but failed and fell onto the hard ground. My eyes widened and I ran over to her and took her into my arms. I ran inside to ask Marlie and Olivia if they would know why she passed out. "Marlie, Olivia! It's Laken she passed out!" I said frantically. Their eyes basically popped out of their heads in shock. "She has heart problems and when she gets worked up she can have a mini heartattack!" Marlie said. Matt ran over to me attempting to take her out of my embrace. But I was not giving in. Not now. This is my fault I'm going to be with her the whole way. Matt just looked at me with a very mad look and walked away. I looked around the room and saw Aaron on the phone with 911 I presume. I could feel the tears threatening to spill from my eyes. I had to stay strong. For Laken. "An ambulance is on its way. We should go wait in the lobby," Aaron said. I just nodded my head and walked out the door of the hotel room and made my way down to the lobby.
After about fifteen minutes of waiting, the ambulance arrived and some paramedic took Laken out of my arms. I tried following behind the man to get in the ambulance with Laken. "Family only." "I'm her brother and those are her sisters," I said gesturing towards Marlie and Olivia. Luckily, Marlie and I look alike and Olivia and Laken look similar. The man just nodded his head and I waved Marlie and Olivia over. As soon as we started driving, we were bombarded with questions about Laken. Only Marlie and Olivia knew the answers so I just spaced out while holding Laken's hand. I can't believe this happened. This is all my fault. I shouldn't have walked out like that. I should've just forgiven her. She doesn't deserve this. I do.
