Chapter Two...
Today was the day of the dinner party and it was driving my aunt insane. "We can't just go like that Jack! We have to take something, we can't go empty-handed!" my aunt flipped out and it was quite amusing to watch. "Aunt Cherry, you could always make brownies, you make delicious brownies." I said. "Oh Emily, that's a wonderful idea. I will get started on it now" she said determinedly.
"I still don't understand what's the problem with going empty-handed" My uncle joked. Aunt Cherry shot him a deadly glare and he raised his hand in surrender. I chuckled at them and continued my sketching.
"Oh no!" a shout came from kitchen. Uncle Jack and I rushed there. "What's the matter?" uncle said going over to her. "We ran out of cocoa powder, how am I supposed to make the brownies now?" she wailed. Uncle Jack sighed in relief and gave her a flat look "Really and you shout bloody murder when we have only ran out of cocoa powder?"
Aunt Cherry looked like she was going to cry. So I reluctantly said, "it's ok aunt, I can go buy some from the nearby supermarket." She instantly perked up at that and smiled at me "Oh my god Emily, that's incredibly nice of you. Thank You so much, you are such a sweet child." I looked towards my uncle and grinned. He just shook his head and went out of the kitchen grumbling under his breath something about women and their moods.
I put on my sneakers, threw my hair in a messy ponytail and went outside picking up my cellphone. It's not that I have friends who would call or message me, but because knowing me I could easily get lost, even if the nearest supermarket was just down the road.
It was the first time I got out of the house alone to go somewhere, I preferred staying indoors. This town was quite small compared to my previous city but it was undoubtedly more beautiful and peaceful. It was the type of place where everyone seemed to know everyone. And that was just proved when I entered the supermarket and heard the cashiers addressing their customers with their names.
I searched through the aisles looking for cocoa powder, cause I sure wasn't gonna ask someone for help. Finally locating them, I went to pick one up, but then stopped. Which one should I buy? There were some in sachets, some in boxes. Should I buy the big box or the small one? Or which company should I buy? Aunt Cherry didn't give me any specific instructions.
I took some steps back, in order to see all of them, as if that was going to help me decide. Though that wasn't the best idea, because walking backwards means I can't see where I am going, which is why considering my luck, I bumped into someone pretty hard. An 'oof' sound came from my back, followed by the sound of something shattering.
I was shaken up really bad from that unexpected crash and if it wasn't for someone holding me from behind, I would have crumbled and fell on the floor.
"WHAT THE HELL?" shouted a male voice, who I am guessing is the person who I bumped into. "ARE YOU BLIND? CAN'T YOU WATCH WHERE YOU ARE GOING? LOOK WHAT YOU DID... YOU ARE SO GONNA PAY FOR THIS PHONE YOU BROKE" he shouted at me.
Turning around, I saw the boy who was shouting at me. He seemed to be of my age. The first thing I noticed about him was his green eyes, which were filled with fury, glaring at me and if looks could kill, I would be 1000 feet under the ground right now.
"I-I-I am s-so sorry" I whispered hating the way, my voice was breaking. That's why I hated human interactions. I always ended up making a fool of myself. And by the way the boy was glaring at me, I don't think it would be long before I pee my pants.
"I-I will pay f-for your p-phone" I stuttered "I am sorry". Oh no! my eyes were starting to water, the waterworks can't come, atleast not now. I have made enough fool of myself already. Something flashed in his green eyes and then he rolled them. "Don't bother" he said and then walked away leaving me there.
I sighed and tears of relief made their way down my face. It was pathetic really. I turned around, ready to take the first cocoa powder I lay my hand upon, pay for it and walk out and never come back here again. Or atleast that's what I thought.
"Man, that was quite rude, that boy really needs to sort his stuff out" came a female voice from my right. "I am Ashley by the way" she smiled at me. She was a pretty girl around my height with brunette hair and large brown eyes.
No no no, another human! And she was expecting me to give an answer. Why must this happen to me? I wailed inside my head. "Emily" I mumbled thinking of ways to escape. Forget that damn cocoa powder, I'll make some excuse to my aunt. Who knew coming to a supermarket could be that stressful.
"Oh Emily! Nice to meet you. Are you new in here, because I have never seen you before?" she asked. "Yes" I replied. She wasn't disappointed by my short answers. Instead she smiled at me. I admired her for that. Maybe she wasn't that bad after all.
"So are you enrolled in our school? By the way which year are you in?" she asked. "Yes" I replied shyly "and I am a junior." "So am I" she beamed "and so is the boy you bumped into" she winked at me.
My cheeks burnt from embarrassment as I recalled the incident that happened a few moments ago. "You know him?" I asked. "Oh Emily, here everyone knows everyone, and considering we go to the same school, yes I know him. You shouldn't get on his bad side though, he's our school's resident bad boy." She told me, making speech marks from her hand when saying the word bad boy.
Geez that makes me feel so much better. I didn't even start the school yet and I have already angered the school's bad boy. This school year is going to be so much fun, note the sarcasm.
I didn't realize that while talking to Ashley, we had reached the check-out lines and even worse, the person standing at the front of the line is Mr. Bad boy himself. Smirking at me. And I knew he had heard whatever Ashley had said.
Oh Shit.
