Maive shoots me a look of worry but I don't dare look up, instead I stare at a pentagon Ellica and Layla drew with a circle around it in this very spot. The idea of it was so that we were safe, I don't think it worked.
"Well, what do we have to do?" I ask Miriam and she thinks for a second, her lips pursed. She stands and walks off, telling us to stay seated. When she comes back the Ouija board is clenched in her hands.
"You have to work it again to tell it to stop," Miriam places the board on the ground, beside the faint pentagon drawing, "Otherwise you will be next." I nod and ask for a bit of chalk to re-draw the pentagon. Even though I'd only done it once, and not that I wanted to, I still remember the preparation part beforehand. I then asked for some lavender and candles so I could switch the light off. It is midnight so it will be dark. Miriam hands me some lavender, a candle and one piece of old white chalk. I trace the pentagon and place the lavender around the room.
"Light the candle," Miriam whispers at me and I light it with a matchstick. Maive stands up and reaches for the switch, I nod for approval and the lamp turns off. The weary candle light glows very softly but it is bright enough for our faces and the Ouija board to be visible. Placing my hands on the Ouija board everything goes quiet, nothing can be heard. A chill races down my back, the pointer swings to the letters so fast that it is only just slow enough to follow.
