I stared at my mirror for a long time before I finally decided to move. I plugged in my straightener, and whilst it was heating up, I started washing my face.
"Phil I'm going out, thanks about this morning you're a doll." my roommate said, knocking on the bathroom.
"I'm headed out too. And come in."
"Ahh where are you headed Philip?" PJ said, digging in his drawer for something.
"A party... surprisingly."
"Really? Well why don't we just go together? If you want to hang out with me, that is." He said, unsure of himself.
"I'd love to hangout with you PJ. I just have to do something with my hair then I'll be ready."
"Alright. I'll be waiting." He gave me a warm smile and closed the door, squeezing close to me so he could use the full length mirror. "What is up with my hair today, oh my fuck!" He said, angrily trying to sort it out.
"I think it looks great. It looks like you just had some wild sex." We both laughed at my joke, knowing that PJ isn't that type of person. He may party a lot, but he doesn't sleep around.
"Here, my dad bought me this gel because he thought I liked curly hair." I opened the cabinet, and handed PJ the expensive can of hair product.
"Holy shit. Thanks mate. " He chuckled as he messed around some more with his hair. "Wow this stuff is great." He was admiring himself and I stifled a laugh. PJ and I had messed around a bit, but we both decided that it was simply just physical attraction for both of us. We were too much like brothers to actually date, and we were both much happier that way. We had no problem complementing each other, and joking about the other ones love life, or lack there of in my case.
"Yea it looks much better. I might even take you right here." I winked at him through the mirror and he just laughed and opened the door.
"Whatever you say." he leaned on the door frame, watching me deal with my hair. "you're taking twelve years. C'mon Philip you look great. Let's gooooo." I gave him a sideways glance before agreeing. I turned off the straightener and light, and grabbed my coat from my bed.
"Ready?" I asked getting my keys out.
"I've been ready, dipshit."
"Shut up."

"Phil I'm so glad you're here! who's this?" Dan pulled me into a warm hug, and then gave Pj a weird look.
"This is my friend PJ." I smiled warmly at PJ, noticing how uncomfortable he looked. He smiled back, and then patted Dan's shoulder as he walked passed him, clearly going to the kitchen. Dan ignored him, his eyes fixed on mine, and vice versa.
"You look great, why did you change? I liked your plaid shirt." Dan asked, wrapping his arm around my waist and leading me to the kitchen.
"I spilt soup on it." I answered plainly, suddenly feeling nervous about the atmosphere. People were yelling and throwing booze at each other, and my anxiety was through the roof. Dan seemed to notice this.
"Do you want to go outside? It's less chaotic out there." He looked at me with warm eyes and a genuine smile. My heart fluttered.
"if you don't mind? i feel a bit claustrophobic in here." Dan took my hand and intwined our fingers, making a blush form on my cheeks.
"Follow me child." He said, giggling like a small school girl.
The back yard was still littered with drunk and sweaty college students, but I still felt more at ease in the open space. "I'm going to go get a drink, do you want one?"
"I guess, thanks." He walked away, leaving me alone and vulnerable. I went over to the picnic table and sat down, just watching everyone. I'm more of a people watcher than a people person. I fought with myself on whether or not to get my phone out. It would look hella sad if I was THAT guy at the party. But on the other hand, It was hella awkward just sitting here, alone. I pulled my phone out anyway, and texted my best friend, Meagan.
To: princess gaylord👸🏼: "Pls come save me from this party. idk why i thought this was a good idea???!???!!"
From: princess gaylord👸🏼: " you're there bc there is a hot piece of ass that wants your ass. So suck it up. ily 😏"
"Who's this hot piece of ass you're talking about?" I hadn't realized Dan was behind me until he spoke. My cheeks flushed, and I didn't know how to reply so I just shrugged my shoulders. "Do I have some competition?" He sat down next to me, setting an unopened can of beer on the
"Why? Are you jealous?"
Dan just laughed and put his elbows on the table, and stretched his legs out, almost tripping someone. "Don't flatter yourself." He wasn't looking at me but he had a smirk running across his lips. I tried to not get offended, but failed miserably. I always say stupid things that make people get annoyed with me.
"I'm gonna go talk to some friends." Dan said, making it clear that I wasn't invited to join him. I waved him off, and took a swig of beer. If I was going to get through this night, I would have to do it completely wasted.
