Disclaimer: The writing in this book MAY be choppy because I was very excited upon writing this and remembering fine details was difficult after such a fun-filled night. Now on with the story, I hope you enjoy, much love from unusualsnowflake.
On the 21st of January 2015 I made my way to Lincoln Hall for the Oh Wonder Music concert that night, and I'd like to share that experience with all of you. My mom and I drove out to Lincoln and decided to hang at a Mexican restaurant across from Lincoln Hall relatively early, if you ever get a chance it's really good food. The tour bus was parked literally right in front of the restaurant, I even saw Anthony go from the bus to inside. My mom and I didn't really know what to expect as far as the crowd because clearly Oh Wonder is safe for all ages to listen to, and attracts all sorts of audiences. Finally we went over to Lincoln Hall to get stamped to go in. If you're unfamiliar with the way Lincoln Hall is set up, there's a balcony section (where I was conveniently seated), or the ground, no chairs but you could feel up the stage if you wanted to. The opening band there was Zigtebra, who did amazing. If you're unfamiliar with Zigtebra, it's a brother/sister duo from Chicago, I'd call their style spooky pop if I had to describe it. They played many, many songs but let me tell you one in particular stuck out to me. I don't listen to Zigtebra, really, I looked them up to see the concert and after I looked for this song. I still am unsure if it was actually part of the song or was just special that night because I have yet to find this exact audio. Anyway long story short, between parts of the song, there was talking, not singing, just talking, basically telling a story about love, but with mention of transgender people, specifically agender people which was really cool for me because I don't really think gender is relevant so I guess you could place me in that category. After Zigtebra performed it seemed like a century went past waiting for them to set up for Josephine and Anthony. Finally, they came out and I don't remember them saying anything, they just got right into it. First song was Livewire, and it was amazing, it sounded EXACTLY the way that it sounds just listening from iTunes or Spotify. As the songs went the bass started to get a little louder, which I loved, but my mom wasn't really a fan. The way we were seated, my mom was on an end, then to the right of her was me, and to my right was a man, probably in his thirties if I had to guess. He was really quiet and to himself and calm about my screaming until about halfway through and he asked how I found Oh Wonder, he had found them on Spotify, and I had found them on Instagram in case you were curious. Finally they took a pause after four or five songs to say how glad they were to make it to Chicago, and talked about the music stores here and made a whole deal about how that our store is one of their coolest life experiences and they spent WAY too much money there. Then they continued with more songs, I'll leave a list of ALL the songs they sang at the end of this page. It got to another pausing point and they announced they were going to begin wrapping up with one last song, Technicolor Beat. My mother, the man next to me, and myself all sort of lost it, if you know what I mean, and got up and sang and over all it felt amazing just to be there. After this I bought a shirt and poster and left to go home. If you ever have the chance to see Oh Wonder live, do it, because I promise it's worth every penny.
