*Garroth's POV*

Take deep breaths, Garroth, I told myself. Laurance had passed out a few minutes ago and and his beautiful face seemed so peaceful. I often had to keep myself from kissing it.

"Garroth, you're blushing like mad. Are you okay?" Katelyn nudged me. I jumped and nodded.

"SHHHHHHH! I'm talking to Dante!" Aphmau hissed from the other side of the room. She was on her phone, "Yes Dante. We're going to GateWay Hospital. In fact, we're here now!"

I looked out of the small windows from this enclosed space. We were indeed, here. The nurse prepared to move Laurance. I took deep breaths. Laurance gasped. His eyes were open, "G-Garroth? Where am I?"

I moved to him but the nurse blocked me. "I need free space to move. Mr. Zvahl, you are in an ambulance. Don't worry. You will be fine."

Laurance nodded and took a deep breath, "Guys, I don't want to let the doctor be the one to tell you this..." Everyone leaned forward, even the nurse. "I kept this from you because I didn't want you to treat me any different.... Oh well, guys, I have.... lung cancer! Okay!" Tears started streaming down his face. My heart skipped a beat. Lung cancer!? No way! How could we not have known this?

"You-You can't be serious! Why would you keep something like that from us?" Katelyn gasped. Laurance started to hiccup. Then the ambulance doors started to open and Laurance was wheeled out.

"I jumped out and ran to Laurance's side, "Laurance, it's okay. I-I" I gulped down the words I was going to say. I love you. "I will always treat you the same. You are my best friend now and forever."

Laurance stopped crying and smiled through his tears, "T-Thank you, Garroth." he closed his eyes and his breathing slowed. Laurance was wheeled into an ER room. The doctors hooked him up and I was asked to leave. We went home and I was distant all day. I love you Laurance, now and forever.

The next day, after work. I walked to Olive Garden and grabbed my car. I drove to the hospital. The woman at the desk had blonde hair and brown eyes. "Who are you here to see... Wait. You're Garroth Ro'meave! Let me guess, Laurance Zvahl?" I nodded, smiling. "Yes!" she grinned, "My ship!" I blushed and she gave me directions.

I opened the door and Laurance was on the bed, his chest going up and down. There was a gasp behind me and I turned to see the nurse. "Zoey!" I gasped.

"Hello Garroth. I see you found Laurance. I was quite surprised to find I was assigned to him! Lung cancer, eh!?" I smiled and nodded. "Garroth, do you know about his back?" Zoey's face darkened.

I shook my head. "I never see his back. Even when he swims he wears a swim shirt." Zoey walked past me to Laurance. She put an arm around Laurance's back and lifted him into a sitting position. I gasped but Laurance slept on.

"Come here," Zoey beckoned me over and I looked at Laurance's back. There were long cuts, down his body, reaching almost to his waist.

"Oh my Irene!" I gasped, "I had no idea!" A tear trickled down my cheek. It hurt to see this. I stepped back so it would be out of sight. Zoey let Laurance back down and covered him with the blanket that had fallen off him. Then Dante walked in.

"Hey Garroth, oh, Zoey! You work here!?" Dante smiled.

"Yeah. It's close enough to the city and it pays well. Poor Laurance. I wonder how long he has had cancer." Zoey sighed.
