Present day

"Hey, Rosie." The familiar voice caught her attention. The mirror-like river reflected the boy just a few years older than her. He looked so much like her father, the same lively green eyes and strong arms with sun kissed skin. She knew this person way too well. He was the one who took care of her, taught her who to trust, what is good, who is good and things your parents always warn you about, he was the only parent like character in her life, her brother, Jason.

Jason was one of the best trackers in the pack. And she was a warrior, just like her father.

"Jason, why are you here?" She asked, worried. It wasn't normal to see him hanging around, he was always busy with something or the other.

"Come on, Rosie!"

"Jason, I know you for ten years!"

"Okay," Jason sighs. "I came to inform you about Luke, he's returning tonight."

"Wow! Really?" She jumps up from where she was sitting, a bright smile lights up her face, as Jason replies with a nod.

"Jase! You made my day. Oh my goodness. It's been like forever!" She speaks in a high pitched voice. Her excitement clear.

"No, it's been two weeks only," says Jason, matter-of-factly.

Luke and Rosie have been best friends since childhood. He was the reason they got a new pack. But being the Beta, he was always on business. Visiting packs and all. Rose didn't like it a tad bit.

"Rosie, I think we should go back to the pack house." Jason suggested. They weren't far from the pack house, but he could smell danger.

"Yeah, anyways I need practice, I have a match with Kate today." she says, sarcastically and starts walking towards the pack house. Jason follows her, laughing at her jealousy.

*********

Rose was standing close to the doll, whom she was going to wreck. She did some practice - or is it even called practice?
She just raced a few miles with her brother and of course who won't win with those dangerously long legs of Jase. He was the best tracker and she was a fierce fighter. Defeating this little girl beside her didn't even need practice.

"Rose, Kate " Thomas, their mentor nodded, signalling them to come and begin the fight.

They both enter the circle that was made on the soil, marking the fighting ring. As soon as Rose entered there was only one name audible to her ear, "Rosemary!"

She smiled at the crowd, proud that they loved and trusted her. She will never let them down. She never had, she never will. She turned towards her prey, yes that's all Kate was to her at the moment.

They smirked, a fire lit up their eyes. There was one whistle, that was enough for them to know what to do next.

Kate came for Rose with her tiny fist, hitting her right on the face. Little did it hurt. Another punch, a kick in the ribs, another on the knee and another on the hips. The crowd was silent, but there was still that smug look on Rose's face. She was well aware of what she was doing. She was letting Kate hit her, one after another, sometimes moving out of the way and letting the other girl hit the cold air. Another kick to her stomach and she was on the ground. Kate smiled, victory gleaming in her eyes. And that was all Rose wanted.

She jumped to her feet and yeah, it did hurt, but she had been hurt ten times worse than this. Disbelief was clear in Kate's eyes. Rose punched the girl with her full strength right in the ribs, knocking her down, in one swift motion.
