"Mel, we need to talk to you about some matters. Living room, 2 minutes," my mom informed me. i nodded to her, and after she closed the door, I sighed heavily.
What would it be now? Did they think I was pregnant or something? Or maybe that i was smoking? Or taking drugs?
Whatever, I thought, as I shrugged my shoulders. I pressed my feet down on the carpeted floor, getting up from my bed. I like my room; the carpets, the posters, the curtains, my albums, my very own bathroom (complete with a bathtub, not that i used it much - i prefer the shower), my favourite armchair, my four poster bed and most importantly ..
My privacy.
I shut the door behind me as I went out of my room, and headed to the stairs. What I liked about my room was that it was the only room on the second floor. My parents slept in a room on the first floor, I could practically prance around m room and shout for all I cared, 'cause my parents' room and mine were like at the opposite ends of the house, not that it was very big. Other than my parents' room, the first floor only had a living room, kitchen, dining room and a bathroom. Hence it was a good thing I was an only child, otherwise I'd have to share m room with a non-existent sibling.
Snapping back to reality, I descended the stairs and headed to the living room, where my parents were waiting for me on the sofa. I took a deep breath before entering, and propped my self down on the sofa across them, bracing myself.
"Melody," my mom began. Ilooked up immediately, surprised that she didnt call me 'Mel' as she and dad always do. This was not a good sign...
"You are aware that we're having financial difficulties right?" she continued. I nodded numbly, feeling a twinge of sadness in my heart. "Well, since your father and I are both working full-time, and might take months, maybe a year, to recover our losses from our recent.. bad luck," she paused there, thinking deeply.
I knew she and dad were upset after being cheated by a conman, who managed to get a few hundred thousand dollars out of them, before disappearing abruptly without any trace. The police couldnt track down the conman, because all the information about him that my parents knew of were either non-existent or fake. Dad had given up then, he didnt want to trouble anyone anymore..
"Melody?" my mom called. "Y-yes?" I stuttered, my thoughts going away."Your father and I have decided.. Half your room has been rented out."
