“Craig?” I called, looking at him. “Yes?” He replied as if he were thinking deeply. “Do you have a family? Or a girlfriend? What are they like? Do you-“ he suddenly jerked his hand up to my face, clamping my mouth shut, before rolling my body to the other side. Utterly surprised, I turned my head, wondering why the sudden separation was needed. I opened my mouth to speak, but he interrupted me. “Your mom’s coming,” he barely mouthed the words. I panicked and quickly pretended to sleep, moving as far away as I could from Craig.

I heard the door creak open, assuming that it was my mom checking in on us. I heard shuffled foorsteps on the carpets, walking over to my side of the bed.

I tried my best to look peacefully asleep, and I think it worked, ‘cause the footsteps became more distant until the door finally closed shut.

The moment I was sure it was safe to ‘wake up’, I opened my eyes and turned around in bed, looking at Craig, who was still ‘sleeping’. I rolled to the other side again and got up, scratching my head.

“Your hair looks nice,” Craig commented with a chuckle.

I walked over to the full-length mirror, looking at my reflection. My hair so did not look nice. At all. My hair was parted at the wrong sides, with random strands sticking out on top. I looked like a drunkard or something. I glared at Craig, who had now gotten up too.

“Hey, don’t blame me. Sometimes it’s best to be told a beautiful lie than the ugly truth,” he smirked. I scowled at him, not wanting to talk. I turned my attention back to the mirror, fixing my hair. Craig stood behind me, suddenly wrapping his cold arms from behind me, pulling me close.

“Accept my apology,” he pleaded. I ignored his plea and unwrapped his arms. I didn’t really feel mad or anything, it’s just that I always feel cranky whenever I woke up.

I randomly grabbed some clothes and proceeded to the bathroom. I heard Craig prop himself down on the bed, presumably waiting for his turn to bathe.

I had a lot of things racing through my mind while I was showering, like why I was in danger the day before, why Craig could only tell me ‘when the time is right’, why he hadn’t answered my questions after mom left, why I always shivered when he touched me, why his eyes always mesmerized me when I looked into them , why they seemed to change at times.

I guess that’s just the routine of life; So many questions asked, so many answers unfound…

*******

Mom looked up from the table in the kitchen when I entered. “Where’d you bring Craig to yesterday?” she questioned. “Town, like you told me to,” I muttered, not in the mood to talk. “Where’s Craig?” she asked. “Bathing.”

I walked over to the fridge, grabbing 2 eggs. Seeing that I didn’t want to talk, Mom left. I sighed, and cracked open the eggs into a heated pan.

I waited for about two minutes, turning off the stove and scraping the eggs off the pan. I hated cooking, but I loved baking, which was kinda weird for a teenager, especially someone like me. Just as I turned around to out the bowl on the counter, I bumped into Craig, who had been silently standing behind me all the time.

“My God, next time please don’t do that,” I scolded.

He seemed unaffected, as though I hadn’t talked at all. And then I realized, I hadn’t accepted his apology from earlier on in the room. Well, I wasn’t going to care. I took a loaf of bread and the bowl of scrambled eggs, heading to the dining room.

Craig followed without a word, sitting down on the chair beside mine, staring at me eat. I ignored him, trying not to look at his eyes. I’d forgive him easily if I were to look at them.

He folded his arms on the table, and then resting his head on them, looking at me eat. I peeked at him from the corners of my eyes.

God he was sp cute! From his pleading grey eyes, to his disheveled black hair which fell over his eyes, to his bloodred lips and his muscular form… Gah stop it Melody! I tried concentrating on my food, faioling miserably Defeated, I turned to him.

“Accepted.”

That one word made his eyes light up immediately, a smile forming on his lips. “Really?” he lifted his head up from the table, meeting my gaze. I sighed.

“Yes, and if you don’t go away now I’ll change my mind,” I threatened. He straightened up. “Yes ma’am!” and left the room, as happy as a child who had just gotten a sweet. I giggled, returning to my food. I frowned then, realizing I hadn’t offered him any food to eat. I left my food on the table and went up to my room.

However, when I was outside my room, I heard Craig talking on the phone. I leaned against the door, pressing my ears to it, catching parts of what he was saying to the person on the line.

“Yes, Im still here.”

“No,  no I haven’t.”

“I don’t know yet…”

“Her birthday.”

“I need more time.”

“I will.”

I heard nothing else, so I quickly ran down the stairs, back to my food.

On the other end of the line…

“He just hung up,” the creature told the rest. The youngest princess was curious. “What did brother Craig tell you?” The creature sighed. “He just said it wasn’t time to bring her yet. He needs time, probably 2 or 3 weeks. He shrugged.

With nothing else to be discussed, the rest of the family went their separate ways.

Melody’s P.O.V.

I finally finished my food, and went to the kitchen sink to wash it. “Knock knock,” I heard Craig at the doorway. “Who’s there?” I said, smiling to myself. He didn’t reply, so I turned around. He was leaning against the counter. I went to his side, leaning too.
