“Therefore, light rays are reflected off the plane mirror and right back into your eye,” Mrs. Orion said, smacking her metre stick against the whiteboard, pointing at the notes she wrote there earlier.
“And therefore, my proof that Physics is absolutely boring,” I whispered to Kristina, who let loose a quiet giggle.
“So why are you taking Physics then?” asked Tom.
“Cause university is a giant ass. Yes, I do realize that I don't actually have to go, but I want to try to live kinda normally,” I replied sighing.
“Have you noticed that the sporty twin has been staring at you for the last forty-five minutes?” Kristina asked, trying to change the subject.
“You should become friends with him. Maybe he can get you out of the funky mood you've been in lately. Oh, and while you're at it, get his brother to talk to me. Damn, why is he so fine?” Tom said. I scowled and finished copying the notes off the whiteboard. Curiosity got the best of me, and I snuck a glance towards where Jake was sitting next to his brother. Sure enough, he quickly looked away, but it looked like he couldn't help but smile. I smiled and looked away. I wasn't going to get involved, or gain feelings. I made myself stone cold to anyone but Tom and Kristina. By avoiding feelings, I avoided getting hurt again. No way was I letting myself look or be vulnerable ever again. Besides, as soon as he finds out the truth, he'll leave, just like the others did. Might as well save myself the time and effort.
Looking around, I noticed Danny watching as Kristina yawned. A smile grew on his face, and I swear I saw his cheeks flush red. I smiled and looked over at my best friend, who was cluelessly working on her mirrors worksheet. My thoughts started to drift back to two years ago. Back when I was still happy, still alive. How could I have not been? I had two amazing best friend, an amazing boyfriend, good grades, scholarships lined up, loving parents(who fully supported the fact that I had a boyfriend and a gay best friend. They were really quite supportive.) and a really great life. It’s all gone now, thank to the accident that took my parents’ lives. After that, I ran and hid at Kristina’s place(where we also discovered that I was no longer living, but a ghost instead.) We told her parents and they took me in as their own daughter. I changed my last name to match Kristina’s and applied to the papers necessary to get my life relatively back to normal. As for my ex-boyfriend, after he heard about the accident, and my supposed “death”, he persuaded his parents to finally move like they wanted to for a long time. Last time I heard about him, I heard he moved across the country from our rainy Vancouver to somewhere in Ontario. We also told Tom, who had an emotional mood swing moment. He went from shock, to surprise, to tears, and then ended it all by embracing me in a giant hug. Luckily, this was all over within the hour, so he was back to normal after. As for relationships, well, I’ve tried to have normal relationships, but they all failed. No one had the dedication to stick around.
“Aria.” I snapped out of my thoughts and looked over at the source of the sound. Kristina was packing her notebook and pencil case into her bag.
“What?”
“Class is over, silly. Let’s go eat, I’m starving,” she said, grabbing her bag and tucking her chair in. I quickly shoved all my things into my bag and together, we walked out of class and off the the cafeteria.
