A New School

You stand at the entrance to your new school. Shingeki High. You let out a sigh as you hitch your backpack up further and pat down your dark grey skirt. The uniform was itchy as fuck. It was only your first day wearing it, but you already felt the need to soak it in petrol and burn it to ashes. The skirt was short and layered which made it swoosh around your legs as you walked. The white collared shirt that -after numerous attempts to iron it- felt crisp and folded even while wearing your maroon sweater vest. You sighed again for what seemed like the hundredth time today as you tugged at the edges. A sweater vest? Really? What is this, Hogwarts? You were here to complain and fail tests, not learn how to use a magic wand.

As you stepped inside the school gates, you noticed something immediately. The atmosphere...The energy...It was different. The school that you were in before you transferred here was the definition of shit. And I mean shit. For a start, the people in it were completely idiotic. And pathetic. They were insistent on being assholes to every single person that crossed their paths-the girls were always bitching about each other and starting drama, and the boys were constantly picking fights and wrestling at any given opportunity. Not your style at all, unfortunately. but the biggest thing that made you insistent to leave as soon as possible, was how the school dealt with mental illness. You struggle with anxiety and minor depression, but some days it could be crippling. Some days, you couldn't even get out of bed. When it all started, gradually your friends started to leave you because they couldn't understand. Because, some days, you would just break down and cry for seemingly no reason at all. They all eventually gave up with you, with trying to make you feel better. You didn't really blame them, I mean, what else could they do? You were a lost cause.

Over time, the staff members at that school caught on that you struggled with anxiety. Actually, it was pretty obvious. Whenever there was a ceremony or assembly, you refused to go in. Too many people. The staff, surprisingly had no fucking clue how to handle the situation, so you were left to your own devices and had to figure out the best way to deal with all of your problems. Finally, after about 6 or 7 months, you had had enough. You had said goodbye to your so called "friends", and left the school for good. Your parents completely understood, luckily, and agreed to find you a new school to go to. Your mum's friend's daughter-Christa Lenz- apparently goes to this school and recommended it to you, saying that it had a good reputation and was very quiet. Hopefully you would see her at school today, you think to yourself. After all it'd be nice to have a friend, right? Even though you'd only met her twice a couple of years ago.

As you slowly made your way past all of the groups of people, taking in each detail, you noticed quite a few individuals that caught your eye. One of them was a tall and slightly muscular boy with light brown messy hair that was darker underneath. He held a football loosely under his arm,and was in some sort of PE outfit, chatting excitedly to another boy with black hair and freckles. Suddenly, you hear a girl shout loudly in his direction.

"Hey, horse-face! Did you loose another football game? Seriously, I cant believe they still let you play for that team!"

She said it moderately cheerfully enough with a great big grin on her face, running towards him and clutching some bread in one hand.

The boy deemed "horse face" turned around, looking totally pissed off. Uh oh. Judging from past experiences at your old school, this could only end badly. As you watch the scene about to unfold before you, you start to wince a little, almost not wanting to look. You hold your breath as the boy looks down at the girl, frowning and crossing his arms. The girl continued to munch on her bread, looking up at him innocently. He was totally gonna beat her or something-you'd seen this kind of situation before. There was a silence between them, and then...

The boy...Flicked her forehead? That's it?!

"Dammit Sasha! I told you not to call me that!" The boy growled, sounding embarrassed, and you noticed he was blushing a little and looking around. This whole thing confused you-they weren't going to beat each other? Hmm. You were really expecting some sort of violence to break out. I mean, that's how it was in your old school. But i guess these two were friends.

Actually, you were pretty relieved that nothing bad happened. As you watched Sasha and "horse face", who turned out to be a boy named Jean Kirstein, you smiled to yourself.

Maybe this school was different.
