Chapter 3
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry Cameron!” I squeal. Why did I have to run into Mr. Trackteam Allstar? (Well technically he ran into ME but you get my point)
“Hey I should be the one apologizing considering I pretty much clobbered you. Are you ok? Anything broken?
“Why? Afraid I’ll sue?” I ask jokingly.
“Nah just trying to be nice.”
“Well thank-you. The only thing that really hurts is my wrist but I think I’ll survive,” I say
“If you want, I could take you back to my house and wrap it for you.
“No it’s fine, I can take-
“Please, I insist. I hurt you, so it needs to be me who makes it better,” he says solemnly.
Woah. He’s Mr. Sensitive, too? Why, oh why, did he have to hit me?
He flashes me a warm, apologetic smile as we walk toward his house.
“So how long have you lived here?” he asks.
“Pretty much my whole life. How about you?”
“Since I started breathing.” Again, with an affectionate smile.
“Weird. We live so close together and yet we’ve never hung out.”
“Well you can blame my dad for that. He was a sports hero back in the day and now he wants me to follow in his footsteps. He says girls are a distraction and they bring even the best of athletes to their downfall. So it’s just me and the guys over the years.”
“Uh, your dad realizes that women play sports too, right?”
“I think he tries to mentally block them from his inner man processing unit.”
I couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not but then he winks at me so I know it is safe to let out my suppressed laughs.
“Wow, you have a really pretty laugh, Andi.”
“Well, uh, thanks,” I answer not so smoothly, “you have an even prettier smile.”
He blushed a deep shade of red as he let me in his house. One look and you would’ve thought we lived on two different sides of the planet. A mahogany spiral staircase greeted us when we walked and a crystal chandelier was dangling above it. But what impresses me the most is the room he led me to next.
“Well this is our den,” he says in a nonchalant tone.
I sit on the couch while he goes to get the medical kit. I can’t help but marvel at all the trophies. If the sport existed, Cameron’s dad had won the trophy for it. He wasn’t a sports here. He was a sports LEGEND. One thing I did notice that confused me is I didn’t see a single one of Cam’s track medals (and I know he has several because I’ve seen that kid run)
“Ah, I see the doctor is in... finally,” I say jokingly.
“Very sorry madam, now let’s take a look at that wrist.”
He brought out a wrap and some medical tape and started wrapping up my wrist.
“Wow you have more experience than I thought.”
“Well when you go through that awkward stage of growth you tend to fall down... a lot. Being a track runner just doubled my chances.”
When he taped it it up, I’m kind of sad it’s over.
“I would ask for you to stay longer but my dad would freak if I had a girl in the house.”
I nod glumly as he walks me to the door
“Bye, Andi.”
“Wait! How do you know I go by that?” I ask
He looks a little caught off guard but quickly recovers himself.
“Just because we don’t hang out doesn’t mean I don’t know the important things about you.”

“Sounds pretty cheesy to me,” Nate says after I finish telling him about my afternoon.
“Well I think it’s romantic. It’s exactly what I’m looking for in a boyfriend.”
“Well if it’s not cheesy then it definitely sounds stalkerish. He doesn’t even know you yet he knows stuff about you. This guy has obviously been keeping tabs on you.”
“Oh yes, I’m sure that using Facebook classifies him as a first-class stalker.”
I start to laugh but I see Nate’s face and shut my mouth.
“Nate, please share your personal feelings. Why don’t you like Cam?” I ask
“Cam?!? So your on a nick-name basis now? Well I think CAM is just so full of himself. He thinks he can get whatever he wants. Including you. I don’t want you to be with someone like him.”
“You think Cameron’s just flirting with me just to say he can?” I say through bitter tears. Why is he being like this?
“Oh, Andi I didn’t mean-”
“Take me home, Nate. NOw.”
He opened his mouth to say something but then he closed it quickly.
As we drove home I make a promise to myself. No matter what Nathan says, I’m not letting him push Cam away.
