It was one of the one of the coldest winter night of Darjeeling in mid January. Even if it was only half past 8 the fog was quite thick surrounding the whole city in its thick blanket, still it could not dimmed the shine of Moon and Stars. Not many people were outside. Over all it was like a perfect beautiful winter landscape.
Cold wind continues to blow heavily in-between making outside people shiver and pull their jackets and scarf tightly around them.
Many residents were inside their respective home warming themselves sitting near the fireplace, drinking hot chocolate or a cup of tea and simply enjoying themselves with their family.
And there she stood...a lonely small 5 year girl leaning against the window railing of an orphanage, her little hand clasped together, eyes closed and lips moving in a continuous murmur.
"Dear God today two new uncle aunty come (came) they took my friend Anu with them. Massi Maa says (said) they are her momma papa now, they were happily smiling holding Anu close. Do you know God they gave us all sweets they are so good...Why no one takes me with them?? I want a momma papa too."
"People look at me strangely, Reena didi says I look very hi--hisous (hideous)." Unconsciously she hands traces her upper lip which had a large slit and it was connected to her nose. "Massi Maa says it's not my fault than why does Reena didi and her friends hate me god?"
Tears fill her beautiful eyes remembering their harsh words. Few tears escapes rolling down her cheeks, she quickly wipes it sniffling.
Taking a deep breath she tries to control her abnormal breathing before deeply gazing towards the Moon she continues again.
"Reena didi said no one would take me with them but, Massi Maa says you are bigger and much (more) powerful than superman you can do everything. Please God I promise I will be a good girl, I will always listen to Massi Maa, I will help other children too and I will thank you each day (every day) pinky promise..." she says innocently slightly pinching her throat with her thumb and index finger.
"Just give me momma papa, I feel so alone alone (lonely) please God pretty please" she completes her prayer.
Suddenly a cool breeze passes blowing her light brown hair which reached past her shoulder. Dressed in a cream color frock which reached above her knees, along with her big honey brown eyes she was looking like a beautiful, cute doll, the only difference was the sadness itched in her innocent face. But still her heart was filled with hope and faith.
Clutching the somewhat torn blanket tightly around her small body to prevent herself from heavy wind she blew a kiss towards the sky before whispering a soft "good night dear God".
After closing the thick curtains of the window she turns around slowly walking towards to her small bed which she shared with another child who was few years older than her, bed light was turned on so she could easily view her path.
