“This is stupid.” I say while Lyla helps me get dressed.
“No, it isn’t. Since you won’t be taking the surgery or therapies and you most probably have 2 months to live, so why the hell not live a little?”
“Ouch, but heartwarming at the same time.” I say while smiling at her at the mirror. She looks at me through the mirror, her eyes showing clear hurt and fear. She smiles at me- a small smile but still a smile.
She gets back to fixing up my hair while I look at the dress laid on my bed. It was a pretty simple dress all in all.
I turn my attention away from my dress and look back at the mirror and can’t help but let out a light gasp come out of my lips. I looked so- so…
“You look beautiful.” I hear Lyla whisper behind me.
“I know.” I whisper back and turn around to hug her tightly. I kept saying thank you over and over again to her until she laughed lightly and said.
“Ok, ok enough. I need to go and get dressed too, you know. So, while I go and change in the bathroom, you slip on your dress ok?” She said, her voice breaking a little in the process.
“Yeah, okay.”
And just like I had said, as soon as I hear the lock turning in the bathroom, I slip on my dress and look at my reflection.
My straight, chestnut brown, hair was curled up in ringlets and the sides of my hair was held up by small, pink, rose shaped clips. My eyes were brushed with a very light pink eye shadow. I had a thing line of eyeliner going on my eye lid, making my stormy, grey eyes look bright and big, and some mascara was brushed on my eyelashes. My olive colored cheeks were brushed with a subtle pink blush and my lips with pink lip gloss. I giggled thinking about how much pink I was wearing.
My dress had thin straps and came to my mid thighs. It had many purple, pink, orange and turquoise colored roses and leaves covering the dress. In the mid-section, the dress scrunched up a bit giving my chest area and the lower area a little poof. My dress looked more like a summer dress rather than a night party dress. However, I am going to a pool party, so I guess it doesn’t matter.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of a door opening. I saw Lyla come out, and boy did she look beautiful.
Her dirty, blonde hair was let down is soft curls while her bangs were swept to the side. She wore some eyeliner and mascara. Her pale, white cheeks were covered with light pink blush and she had cherry, red lipstick on her thin, lips. She wore a navy blue, thin strapped dress which came a few inches above her knees. The dress had white, diamond shaped designs with intricate swirls on the top and, much like mine, at the mid section the dress was slightly scrunched up.
I looked at her, my mouth agape.
“You look so amazing Lyl!” I whispered while yelling the last part.
She looks at me through her eyelashes, while looking at her dress and brushing it trying to get rid of any invisible dust.
“You think so? I mean, not that I really care. But- but, I guess so I want to impress Jules?” she questioned. I laughed lightly.
“Lyl! Jules will love you whether you look pretty or not! Not that you don’t ever look pretty!”
Lyla laughed lightly, amusement clear in her eyes.
