Chapter 1

It was just a typical Friday afternoon for the Mendes family. In other words Me, my sister Andrea and big brother Shawn were splayed out across our comfy old sectional couch. This was usually the time of day when the three of us congregate to the living room, each immersed in our own little bubble of thought. Shawn, who was always lounging in the middle of us often thought about his career, not that I blame him. I could only imagine the things running through his mind, him being a breakthrough artist and all. It still amazes me how he got so big just from a 15 second video, but I guess anything can happen you know? Then there's me, with my head usually resting on his lap. I ponder about what the future has in store for me and of course which boys made eye contact with me earlier in the day. As for Andrea ,she's stretched out on her back like me on the opposite side with her foot on Shawn's shoulder. I'm not really sure that I can say what she's thinking about though, lord knows. Although, it's probably One Direction related. This will forever be my favorite part of the day.

To me and Andrea's dismay, the all too familiar sound of Shawn's ringtone cut through the silence like a sharp blade. I could already see the stupid grin forming on his once thoughtful face. My eyes involuntarily rolled into the next dimension. Andrea just let out this low growling noise, it was almost animalistic. Not like Shawn seemed to notice or care. You see this wasn't just any phone call, we could all tell that the distinct ringtone belonged to no one other than Catalina Casero of the well known girl group, 6th Melody. Also known as Shawn's bae. The very thought of it gives me diarrhea.

"Hey babe! I missed you!" He spoke cheerily into the phone. They went on conversing about whatever for a few minutes, then Shawn put her on speaker. "Say hi girls!" Shawn lightly flicked my forehead and tickled Andrea's foot urging us to go on.

"Hey." We said in unison. I made sure to keep my tone as dry as possible. Andrea just sounded straight up annoyed. Shawn frowned.

"Hey girls!! We should totally hang out again." Oh god no. I erupted into a fit of gagging noises, my sister joined in as well.

"You guys are just too funny." Catalina continued, adding in a fake giggle. "I'm coming over baby in a little okay? Bye!" Who the hell does she think she is? Catalina hung up after that sentence, most likely because she knew there would be no objections from the two of us.

"Alright kiddos we gotta get this whole place spotless before she comes." Shawn said, clapping his hands together with pure excitement.

"Ew, no." Andrea scoffed and walked to her room, whistling 1D's new album.

"Well I guess it's just you an-" Shawn started

"Eh, rather not." I quickly cut him off. "I've got an essay to work on, but I love you!" I kissed Shawn on the cheek and took off in the direction of Andrea's room.
