The rules and regulations of the Morte Household were very strange. Arthur put me on a blood bag schedule, different from the other members. I had one blood bag at 4:00 a.m, one at noon, and the last one of the day at 6:00 p.m. I thought it was strange, but then Arthur explained to me that I wasn't able to go out in the sunlight until two months of being a vampire, so to something in vampires genealogy. Which explains why all of the windows were blacked out during the day. I was still used to my old human sleeping schedule so this was going to be difficult. Arthur explained all of this after the big discussion earlier. Now Arthur is taking me to a supposed training room. All of this stuff is still cycling through my brain as we walk down the hall. Vampires? Special Abilities? Adrian can read every vampire's mind? This information seems so surreal but everything around me is telling me it is actually real. Is this my life now? Will I ever be able to see my family again? I shook my head, forcing the thoughts away. I needed to focus on mastering my abilities and then I am going to see my family. They'll have to let me. Soon, Arthur and I enter a very large room. The contents of the large room include multiple punching bags, a treadmill, a swimming pool, a couple of couches, and no windows. Arthur walked over to the treadmill and I quickly followed. The treadmill looked super high tech, and nothing like I've seen before. Arthur began typing into a laptop connected to the machine and it began mobilizing super fast. Arthur nodded and I took that as a sign to get on the treadmill. As soon as I stepped foot on the treadmill, I was thrown back to the other side of the room, where Adrian was just entering. "Well, shit" I mumbled to myself. Arthur is smiling and heading over to me and Adrian is already by my side, looking worried but trying to hide his laughter. I lift myself up, and use my vampire speed to zoom right onto the treadmill and I get on with no problems. I smile while continuing to run on the machine. Arthur walks over and has a look of surprise and pride on his face. He nods and hits stop on the machine. My speed stops the same time the machine is done. "Well done, Brea, let us continue testing your abilities." Arthur says, walking over to the punching bags. I sigh, and join him. This is going to be a long day.
...
After we finished testing all of the basic abilities vampires get when turned, we began testing to figure out my special ability. "I SWEAR ARTHUR IF YOU TELL ME TO CALM DOWN ONE MORE TIME.." I shout, Adrian easily holding me back. Arthur paces back and forth, brows furrowed in frustration, "Brea, please just listen. I have never dealt with a vampire that has a special ability more difficult to figure out. There is a very slim chance you don't have one." I huffed loudly in frustration. Adrian cautiously let go of me and chuckled. "Don't worry, I've never met a vampire without a special ability. It may just take a little longer than normal. Breathe, Brea." Adrian says, patting me on the back. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. "Or maybe she was just a dull human being and now an even more dull vampire." Elizabeth says with a smirk. My eyes open and my calm is gone. Adrian rolls his eyes and covers his face with his hands, "Here we go..." I lurch for Elizabeth's throat and twist my hands around it. She gasps in surprise but quickly takes control of the situation, twisting me into a headlock. we tumble around the floor in the same position at vampire speed but then a wave of drowsy, calm emotion washes over me. Elizabeth is affected the same way, as her grip around my neck loosens. I take a deep breath and block Arthurs ability from my mind. I turn my body and take Elizabeth neck into my hold. My hold on her is firm enough to make her catch for breath, but not enough to kill her. "Who's dull now, huh? huh??" I say calmly, smirking. Arthur looks at me with a disapproving look, and i let her go. Elizabeth falls to the ground, and Adrian is trying to look serious but failing miserably. "Well, at least we now know your vampire strength is intact." Aeliana smiles, standing in the doorway. "Come here Elizabeth, Keria has arrived. Stop making a fool of yourself."
Elizabeth stands, and makes her way to Aeliana while giving me the stink eye. Arthur begins to walk over to the sitting area, beckoning me to join him. Adrian walks over to the punching bags and returns to his workout. Arthur takes a seat on one of the couches and i join him. "Now we need to discuss some of the pros and cons of being a vampire." Arthur takes a deep breath and begins,"Well, vampires have heightened speed, strength, brain capacity and power. The basic pros you have heard of in all of the fictitious stories about our kind. When turned, new vampires also have sharpened canines and a small ability to persuade. Persuasion skills can be sharpened with practice. Vampires do have an immortal lifespan, but can be killed with iron and large quantities of Rosemary. A deadly plant known as hemlock to humans has healing properties for the immortal. More experienced vampires have the ability to read the minds of the mundane. Soon after new vampires awake from their transition, a mark appears on their body that gives a hint to their special ability. Vampires also get a mark on the back of their neck when they meet their immortal partner. Aeliana and I share the mark of a simple circle on our necks. " pausing, Arthur smiles and rubs his neck, " Now for the cons of our species, they outrule the benefits. Newly turned vampires cannot go out into the sunlight until two months of age, as you know. When vampires cry, the tears burn them like acid does humans, as you also know. Vampires must also be invited in by humans unless the owner of the house is not human. Vampires can not reproduce or eat mundane food. When a vampire goes rogue, their emotion begin to blacken, where every happy emotion felt turns immediately into rage, thirst, and homicidal tendencies. Vampires also receive scars on where they last killed another vampire and their eyes begin to turn red when they kill a human." Arthur finishes. I look into his eyes, now understanding why they were so blood red.
