It was Halloween and Billie Dean Howard had a date arranged with Nora Montgomery.
She had met the ghost-woman while working with her clients Constance and Violet. She felt an immediate attraction and when she heard the Harmons had passed she began visiting regularly, and formed a close friendship. Although the two were very different, they say opposites attract and they found they had plenty to talk about. At first Nora was shy, and unapproachable at times but eventually she opened up to Billie. She had finally worked up the courage to ask Nora out, not sure how she felt about her. Nora happily accepted, although a little unsure of going out with another woman.Billie arrives at the Murder House on the chilly evening, wearing a black zip-up hoodie and jean shorts with leggings underneath. She lets herself in, being no stranger to any of the residents.
"Nora! I'm here." she calls out.
"I'm on my way darling," Nora responds calmly while walking down the grand staircase. She wore a classy red dress that looks as though it came from the nineteen-twenties.
"You look absolutely beautiful. But you make me feel so underdressed," Billie chuckles.
"You look lovely yourself."
Billie walks her to her car, and the whole ride Nora is amazed by the extent of just how much cars have changed since her time."I hope you're hungry," Billie says pulling into The Cheesecake Factory parking lot, "this is my favorite place to eat."
The two walk in and are seated after about fifteen minutes. Nora orders a steak, and Billie decides on the same.
"This place is beautiful," Nora says, observing her surroundings.
Billie looks into her eyes and nods, "I've been coming here with friends for years, but I've never had a date to bring."
Nora takes ahold of the younger blonde's hands and smiles, "I'm happy to be here with you Miss Howard. Although I never thought I'd consider going out with another woman."
"I'm very happy you're so open-minded. Most people of your time would've had me locked away. Oh, and when will you start calling me Billie?" She chuckles.
"I'm sorry Miss How-, Billie, I'm used to addressing others in this manner. However, I suppose if we are to date we should be on a first name basis."
Billie smiles at 'dating', still in disbelief that this beautiful woman returns the feelings she feels towards her. "Thank you, Nora."
After they eat, Billie drives Nora around in the night, the city lit up by beautiful lights. She makes various stops, showing Nora some of her favorite places. They spend a couple hours exploring until they stop at a dance club.
"Oh no, Billie I don't know if this is the type of place for me," Nora says as they enter the doors.
"Just give it a chance. Please."
Bright neon lights pulsate through the crowded room as loud dance music plays in the back. They have to shout to hear one another. Nora feels very shy and slightly overwhelmed in front of so many people but decides to let it all go and dances with Billie. This lights up Billie's face with a bright smile.
After dancing for a half an hour or so they leave and walk to the bar across the street. They find a much more relaxed atmosphere, with only a few others around and just a television playing the news channel. Nora sighs out of relief as they sit down at the bar and Billie orders her a drink.
"Thank you dear, for all of this. It's been wonderful."
"I only wish this could be more often. It'll be a year until we can go on our second date," Billie laughs in response. The bartender sets their drinks down. Nora had never had alcohol before and was tipsy halfway through. On her second she was full on drunk, and it took Billie three to get there. An hour later they left the bar and the uber driver they had called arrived. They were back to the house in about forty-five minutes. The sun was rising and they went straight to bed, completely exhausted.
"I love you," Billie whispered with tears in her eyes, although aware that Nora had already fallen asleep.
