In any story, pacing is the key but in SciFi this is EXTREMELY important. There may be a lot going on, meaning there is a lot for the reader to take in; because of this, you need to have the right balance of fast paced moments and slow paced moments in your plot.
Face paced moments should be used in dramatic scenes and where no a lot is being explained. The reader doesn't want to be confused by completely new information.
Slow paced moments are more common at the start of stories where the foundation of the plot is being explained. These mean that the reader fully understands what's going on.
If you use pace incorrectly, the reader can become either confused or bored.
Too fast= not enough time to process everything and the reader becomes confused
Too slow= not enough action and therefore bores the reader.
Hope this was helpful!
