I stuffed my stiff and chilly hands into my pockets as I strutted down the road with an exhale and my breath dispersed into a white fog in the cold air. Long walks in the winter such as this were all that I needed sometimes...

My phone buzzed repeatedly in my pocket but I strove to ignore it. I knew it was him calling and if I were to pick up, I'd start a whole other argument right now on these streets and make a fool out of myself towards my fellow night lurkers. I couldn't afford to go through all of those pitiful looks again from my neighbors.

I continued to walk until I reached a main street. I looked either side of me, cars slowly flowing from either direction before I stepped into the road to cross it.

"Miracle?" A voice called from a car which I'd only just passed as I stepped onto the pavement on the other side. I swivelled around and tilted my head slightly.

"What'chu doing outside so late? Does Ole' Romeo know that you're out here lurking the streets?" An old friend asked. I chuckled at his sarcastic nickname for his ex best friend as he stopped his car beside me.

"I'm just popping to the store." I lied fluently with a smile. Something I'd become accustomed to as a result of my current relationship; not to say I'm proud. He paused for a second as if he were sceptical of my answer.

"Aight, but what could you possibly need at this time of the night?" He peered at the in-built clock in his flashy red car which read 11:37 PM,  before looking back at me.

"Uhm, a cigarette? I ran out and withdrawals acting a bitch." I confessed, that was far from a lie, and now that I think about it, I could really do with one right now.

He scrunched his face up in disgust as if he didn't have a pack of weed bunches stuffed in his cup holder.

"Damn, since when did you start smoking? I'on like girls that smoke." He stated and I sucked my teeth.

"And I'on like guys who's opinions are irrelevant to me." I mocked. He chuckled lightly as he licked his demoisturized lips although I saw no humor in my reply. I hadn't spoken to this man in what felt like years all due to his fall out with my man. They were once two peas in a pod, commonly mistaken for twins, whilst he was like a brother to me. As a matter of fact, Sean was the one who introduced my man and I to eachother, with no intention to hook us up... I guess it just happened.

So it had been Ricky, Sean and I for about two years all until an argument broke out between the guys over God knows what and the two got to scrapping until they were both in need of hospital care. I'll never forget that night, I honestly thought that that night would be my boyfriends last.

"And to think, Ricky used to always say that you were as 'sweet as a berry' now." He said and I swayed my head slightly with a smirk.

"Maybe he wasn't talking about my personality traits." I hinted playfully as we both chuckled and his top two teeth grazed his bottom lip in a provocative manner. I scoffed at his thirst, despite my part in drawing it out. Maybe that was a tad bit immature on my part.

"Get in the car." He ordered, after our gauche laughter had died down. It was already awkward enough speaking to my boyfriends  now-enemy about the sugar levels which settled in my lower abdomen, but him practically commanding me to get in his car was more than a push.

I swiftly ignored his order, stuffing my hands back into my pockets and continuing my walk. He drove right beside me in his flashy car, his tinted window rolled down even further than they already were so that he could preserve a conversation easier. I couldn't help but admire the dime piece on his car bonnet which sat above his license plate and flashed luminously against the city lights. It was much like the one my father sported proudly on our school run days, years ago. Nowadays he was more of a vintage truck guy.
