"Red." Lizzie's voice came through the phone.

"What is it?" His voice was filled with worry. "Sam...You knew didn't you?"

"I knew what?" He said dumbly, even though he knew what she was about to say.

"That I have a adopted sister." Her voice was filled with disgust, aimed at him. "Lizzie-" he tried to explain.

"No. Since I'm stuck with her you'll be helping me." Red sighed and scratched his head. "Elizabeth, a criminal can't raise a nine year old child."

"Red cut the crap I'm coming over in two hours with her, and she's staying with you." He sighed, he knew himself that it was up to him to help. "Alright, and Lizzie?"

"Yes Red?"

"Where is she sleeping?" He swallowed. Lizzie sweetly laughed in the other side of the phone. "Your place of course; I have work in the morning."

She hung up. He looked at the hallway mirror. "What am I going to do with a child?"

Exactly two hours later the doorbell rang. On the porch Liz was holding the hand of a small child. "Bethany this is my friend, Red." The small, inquisitive blue eyes stared up at him. She smirked when she saw him stutter.

"You're scared, aren't you?" The 9-year old said.

"No, I suggest you learn the word respect before you come into this house." He replied calmly. She rolled her eyes and stepped into the house and went into the kitchen. When Bethany was out of ear-shot she laughed.

"Good luck."

He shot daggers at her. "Really Lizzie? She's worse than you!" Liz smiled and smacked his arm. "I have the rest of her stuff in the car, the court said that I'm raising her from now on." Liz gently chuckled. "The thing is Red-"

"You can't be there for her, and you think I can. I see rub it off on me." He snapped. She rolled her eyes and entered his safe-house. "No: day and night you miss your daughter, I'm trying to give you a second chance."

His mouth dropped. "But- Lizzie no," Red shook his head. "You want a child."

She sighed. "I'm not ready, you know that. I can't protect her like you can. There was already a threat." Her eyes begged him.

"I'll try, but you need to tell her to work on her attitude." Liz set some of her stuff down. "Maybe you two can learn that together. Go find her, I'll get the rest of her stuff."

"Are you staying tonight?"

"Fine." She huffed, "but other than that you're on your own. Go and feed her something too, she hasn't eaten."
He flicked his wrist so his Rolex was facing him. "It's 10:30 at night!"

"I know...that's why you need to feed her."

He rolled his eyes and walked into the kitchen. She had pulled herself onto one of the island chairs. He leaned over from the other side of the marble island. "Hello Bethany, I'm Red. You can call me Ray or Red, okay? I heard you haven't eaten, what would you like?" He grinned at her.

"You're that criminal man form the news." She accused. He was astonished, how did a child know this? "Of sorts yes." He answered slowly and carefully.

"Do you have pasta?" She asked him, while continuing to color a picture. "Yeah, what're you drawing?"

"Lizzie." He smiled, she actually wasn't that bad. "Lizzie!" She shouted, "save me from the monster!"

"Which monster?" Lizzie asked playfully coming to tickle her sides. Red smiled when he heard their joyous laughs. "Dinner is ready."
