"Bones, its me. Open up!" Booth called out, knocking on the door, only minutes later.
Temperence opened the door for her partner. "Where are the cops?" Booth asked. Temperence noticed the gun in his hand.
"I didn't call them when-"
"What? The person could have woken-"
"Booth, the person is... Zack!" She half shouted. His expression changed immediately and his grip on the gun softened. "Woah- You mean the genius, squint boy?" he questioned, but he already knew the answer. Temperence nodded anyway and headed back to the living room, where she had left Zack. "We should call the asylum, they're probably wondering where he is..." She said in an unconvinced tone.
"Bones, give the guy a chance, he must've come here to talk with you. Broke out of the asylum..." Booth rebuttled, waiting apprehensively for her answer. Finally, she nodded, "Help me move him onto the couch, it will be more comfortable for him." Booth smiled and grabbed under Zack's arms, heaving him up and lowering him softly onto the couch.
"Wanna drink Bones?" he asked.
She smiled "You know where I keep the alchohol. Oh and in the freezer there is an ice pack, can you get it for Zack"
Booth returned, a beer in each hand, ice pack under his arm. "Here you go Bones." Booth said when he returned, his disposition considerably lighter. She thanked him and went to put the ice pack on behind Zack's head. "How long has he been out cold?"He wondered. Temperence took the beer and left the room saying, "Oh okay, I'll be back."
"Hey, don't leave me with the squint boy. Where are you going?" Booth hurried after her.
"I'm getting a blanket for Zack, you said he was cold." she stated. Booth frowned then laughed at Temperence's mistake. "No, I said how long has he been out cold. It's a me-"
"A metaphor, I know what they are Booth. I'm just worried about Zack, I wasn't really listening." She retorted, returning the living room. She plonked herself on an armchair and waited for Booth to come in. He arrived with a blanket and placed gently on Zack. "But you said-" Temperence argued.
"I never said he wasn't cold." Booth replied calmly. She huffed and changed the subject.
"Why do you care if Zack is cold? You never seemed to like him very much." Booth shrugged, "Its a guy thing."
