“Mom, Dad! Oh, I missed you two so much.” I had just come out from the plane to greet my oh so beloved parents. I hugged them tightly having not seen them in four years.

I looked at my father; he looked the pleasantly the same with his little mustache and balding head. My mother, however, looked terribly tired and terribly aged. The accident that took her legs away, must have stressed her so much...

“You look like my baby… But when did my baby become such a beautiful young lady? Last time I saw you you were so young and rebellious. Now look at you.” She gave me a once over and covered her mouth, she looked as if she was about to cry.

“Mom, please, no tears.”

“But they’re happy tears!” I lightly wiped the stray tears from her cheeks and grinned.

“Well, before your mother here starts to make a scene we should get going. I’ll take these”; father took my luggage in his hands,” Let’s go home, Draco really misses you.”

“Oh, Draco! How is the little cutie?” I smiled thinking about the black Boston terrier.

“He’s getting old but he still has a kick to him. Just like us.” He gave me a wry smile before pushing mother’s chair. We walked to the parking lot outside the port. I watched as father lifted and carried mom into the car. It looked easy but I’m sure it wasn’t always so. Father started to drive down the once familiar path; we drove past the scenery in a blur.

“Has it been hard?” I asked vaguely. They knew right away what I meant though.

“Never, I love taking care of your mother.” She smiled and covered her hand around his. “What a sweet talker your father is. Not many men like that in the world anymore.”

“I agree, you two are so lovely together. Makes me a bit jealous really.”

She rolled her eyes and scoffed, “Any man who doesn’t see what I see in my baby does not deserve to have you.”

“And your old man here can protect you from all those bloody nitwits!”

“James!” She slapped him on the leg looking cross.” Language.”

“Hey! Nothing you haven’t heard before right Ollie? Americans have quite a rugged tongue I hear.”

“Yeah, I guess they do. The friends I made there are very open, very feisty. It was refreshing actually. Letting loose a bit.” Letting loose a lot really, parties and clubs were everywhere where I lived.

“Oh woe is me; my daughter has become a wild child. Soon she’ll be snorting white powder and drinking hard alcohol-“

“Mom! Jeez, I will do no such thing. I am a good girl and you know that.” I cried slightly aghast that she’d even say such a thing.

“And you tell me to watch my language. Tosh! You should watch your own darling.” Father said sarcastically, his eyes never left the road. I’m sure he never forgot the accident and it is on instinct for him to never make the same mistake.

My attention went back to the windows where the buildings and stores were squashed together. Just another turn and a few blocks straight was, here it comes, home.

“Home sweet home Ollie. I’m sure you would love your room still, hope you don’t mind the renovations.” Father lightly teased.

“What?! I thought you said you wouldn’t touch it, I specifically requested it!” I said in horror, I adored my room; she was like a baby to me. We were getting out of the car and I closed the door shut.

“Don’t listen to him Ollie, I’d never let him touch your room.” I sighed in relief before glaring at my father. He raised his hands in defense,”Hey, you know I’ve always wanted a man cave.”
