A few months pass. It was now October; today was Halloween. It was pretty chilly outside, more than normal. The heat that blew in my face at the front door was nice, even better than before. I walk down the corridor by the front office and past the pits to the vending machine, pulling a dollar out and sticking it in the slot. I questioned to myself which drink I should get, I decided on some kind of juice that looks good. B4. I press the buttons as the machine drops the drink. I pick it up and turn around, Calli there to scare me. Halloween. Yay. "Hey" I laugh and hug her. "Come on, you know I scared the shit out of you" she nudges me in the side, always causing me to giggle because of how ticklish I am. "You're an asshole" I punch her softly and playfully in the shoulder. "There's a football game on Friday" she says after reacting to my punch. "Why would I want to go to that?" I cock my head. "Because of Adam!" She jumps up and down taking my hands, though I stay planted on the floor. I sigh, finally giving in to Calli's nagging. "Fine, let's go to the football game" I roll my eyes and smile. "Okay well I'm going to class. I'll see you later" I turn to walk away. "Bye" she laughs before walking the opposite direction of me.
Instead of heading down the senior hallway for Journalism like last semester, I walk down the fine arts hallway to Drama. Suddenly, Adam would emerge from the pool lobby, which was conveniently right next to the Drama room. I decide to walk towards him. "Hi" I smile, looking up at him. "Oh, hey" he smiles back, "I actually was going to ask you later if you wanna go to this frat halloween party with me?" He cocks his head. I hesitate a moment, "Don't you have a girlfriend?". "Yeah, she said she's going with her 'fellow cheerleader people'," he laughs softly, "So just you and me?". I bite my lip and smile, "Sure, it'll be fun". He smiles a bit wider, "I'll pick you up?". "Yeah" I laugh, smiling. "I'll see you tonight then" He grabs my arm as he walks away, I tense again. I pull out my phone and quickly text Calli. 'Omfg, Adam just invited me to a Halloween Party'. My fingers go a mile a minute, she responds. 'Holy shit! U srsly need to go!'. I put my phone in my pocket and walk to Drama, sitting down on one of the couches and waiting for class to start. My friend Cheyenne enters the room and sits next to me. "Hey!" She says fairly loudly. "Hi!" I say just as loudly. "So I just got invited to a frat party for Halloween" I nudge her in the arm. "What?" She says shocked. "I got invited by a senior" I bite my lip. "Lucky" she says laughing. Then the bell rang, signaling the start to class.
The bell once again rings, this time signaling the end of the day. I head out the front doors and to my Dad's car. I get in and close the door. "How was your day?" My Dad asks right off the bat. "Can I go to a Halloween party?" I butt in. "No? Why would you? You're 14" He shakes his head. "Dad it's just... It's with Calli. It's nothing but Calli and a few of our freshman friends". "You'll have to ask Mom" He shakes his head again. I roll my eyes and pull out my phone to text my Mom. 'Mom, Dad said it'd be okay if I go to a Halloween party w Calli. It's nothin big' I send the message and get a reply quickly. 'Sure, as long as I can trust you to do the right things'. 'You got it' I say, sending the message and putting my phone away. "She was fine with it, one of my friends are picking me up later". My Dad nods and we continue talking about the day until we get home. I hop out of the car and go up to my bedroom to get ready. I put on a flannel and jeans, I also wear some black high-top Vans. I fix my hair up a bit, it already being done from the school day. I look at myself in the full-body mirror and smile.
I hear a car horn outside and I look out the window, Adam sitting out front of my house in his car. "I'm leaving Mom" I say as I run down the stairs and out the front door. I jog to his car and get in. "Hey" I laugh. "You look great" he smiles as he takes off. I hesitate for a moment, surprised at the comment. "Thanks" I smile back. "This your first frat party?" He looks over at me for a moment. "Well, obviously," I laugh, "Last I check eighth-graders don't attend college parties" I smirk. "Touché" He nudges me with his elbow. I giggle. "So..." I take a deep breath, "Tell me more about your girlfriend". He looks over at me for a second before looking back at the road. "Kenzie? Oh she's great," He smiles softly. A piece of my heart chips off. "I've seen her around. She's the cheer-cap right?" I look over at him. "Yeah. We met at one of my games" He glances at me once again. "That's sweet" I look out the window. I could sense Adam looking at me, as if he could tell I was upset. "I'm excited dude. This is gonna be awesome" he raises his voice playfully. 'Dude'. 'Dude'? Since when was I 'dude' to him? "Yeah it is" I smile.
We eventually arrive at the University. He parks outside of Delta Lambda Phi. There was music that I could hear from outside. Adam and I get out of the car and head inside. Stopping and looking up at the fraternity, arm-to-arm. "Damn" I say. "Sweet" He adds. "Let's go" he says, grabbing my arm like he often does. I've deciphered that he's either afraid to take my hand or doesn't like germs? We open the doors as a huge blast of air, lights, music, and the smell of hard liquor flood us.
