Beck very quickly found out that Aaron was not a serious person.
He was cracking jokes constantly, ribbing people they walked past and calling out to others who they saw a little farther off.
"Alright, kiddo. This here's the weapon shed. We're going to find you something to work with." He told her cheerfully as they reached the rather run down looking building.
"What do I have to pick from?" Beck asked.
"Well, there's spears and knives, all sorts of blades for you to try. We've got bows too, and a few unconventional weapons like whips and a few shotguns."
"Why would you have shotguns?"
He shrugged. "People bring things in, they get modified by the Hephaestus kids."
Beck blinked in surprise. This camp was quite a bit more complex than she'd assumed when Jason was showing her around.
"C'mon in, kiddo." Aaron pushed the door open and gestured for her to enter.
Inside was a weapon-master's paradise. Swords lined one wall, spears another. There were tables with daggers laid along them and some of the other weapons that Aaron had mentioned were hung on the back wall. More swords and things were sticking out of large garbage cans that had been spray painted silver.
"So this is what you give me to work with?" Beck asked, feeling her lips twitch up at the Disney quote.
"Honey, I've seen worse." Aaron replied, a smirk playing on his face.
"Yes!" Beck exclaimed. "No one ever catches the more obscure quotes."
"I know the Disney movies inside and out, kiddo." Aaron chuckled and leaned against the wall next to the door, the only area of the room that didn't have something sharp and deadly on it.
Beck slowly walked along the walls, scanning each weapon. She didn't like the idea of a sword or a dagger. It was all blade, there was only one place to hold it. She considered a spear, but moved away from them with a decisive shake of the head.
"Nothing catching your eye?" Aaron asked after about 10 minutes.
"Not really..." A brownish bronze glitter in the corner caught her eye. "Give me another minute."
It was a bronze plated staff, about as tall as she was.
"What's this?" She asked curiously, picking it up.
"A bo staff, I'd assume. I'm not sure."
Beck examined it, then hefted it in her hand a little. It was about the same balance as a color guard flag.
"Let me try something." She carried it outside and stood a few feet from the building. Aaron stood in the doorway and watched her.
Beck took a deep breath and dropped into the starting position from the routine she'd memorized for marching band the year before.
"Five, six, seven, eight." She whispered, before starting, adjusting her tosses and spins slightly for the weight of the staff.
"I'd say that's your weapon." Aaron commented as she finished, breathing heavily and feeling a smile light up her face. "No one else here works with one though, you'll have to talk to Chiron about it."
"I can deal with that." Beck said firmly. "I want this one."
Aaron nodded and led her back to the cabin. She twirled the bo staff the whole way, getting used to the feel of it in her hands.
There were more kids in the cabin when they returned.
"Who's this?" A boy with curly brown hair and sparkling blue eyes asked. Beck immediately felt the need to put her hand in her pocket and make sure her wallet was still there.
"Beck Gibbson. Beck, this is Travis. Connor is probably around here somewhere." Aaron told her.
"So you're Travis?" She knew who he was now. Percy had said in the orientation video not to trust the two sons of Hermes as far as they could be thrown, and Beck completely understood. He had that vibe about him that he'd steal your valuables then trick you into paying him to find them.
"I am." He smiled.
Beck narrowed her eyes suspiciously at him, then felt something move in her back pocket.
"Ah!" She whirled to find an identical boy standing behind her, surprised etched on his slightly elf-like features. "Give me back my wallet."
Slowly he handed over the small thing and Beck opened it, counting out what was inside.
"Don't touch my things." She told the two of them, shoving her wallet into her pocket again.
"Right." Travis nodded.
"Good catch, Beck. Most people don't realize they should be watching for both until they've been here for a few weeks."
Beck flopped onto the bed she had picked out and sighed. "Good for me then."
She ignored the three boys as Travis asked Aaron what was wrong with her. He didn't know, so he didn't give a response.
Beck imagined what her friends must be feeling right now. She had disappeared from the dance the night before, and tomorrow she wouldn't be at school. They'd probably think she was sick, but as the days went by, they'd get more worried. They'd try to call her and get no answer.
"Beck, it's lunch time." Aaron told her.
Beck sighed and got to her feet. "I'm coming."
[A/N just a quick explanation of what's going on. The only reason I can get these up every Sunday (at Ihrschatz0307 request) and I don't update anything else is because I have these pre-written with 12 chapters ready each time I update. I'm working on the other ones, I'm just having trouble with creativity]
