"So how do I control it?"
Percy shrugged. "I can't explain it, you can just feel it in your chest."
"That's helpful." Beck muttered, staring at her hands.
He grunted. "Just think about it, Beck. Actually- don't think about it. I promise it will be easy to you. I was able to control water pretty well before I even knew I was a demigod or had powers."
"How come I never had control of them when I was a kid?"
Percy ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know... It might have something to do with the fear of water, it would separate you from Dad and therefore from your powers."
"Well that's not my fault."
"I know that."
Beck glared at the ground in front of her feet, trying to will it to rise up.
"Are you sure that wasn't you who did it?" She finally complained after a minute.
"Definitely wasn't. It was in time with you stomping your foot and everything, and you were much more upset with me. On top of it, I've never had as much focus with earthquakes. I can do them, but I don't have the amount of control that I do with water."
"What if it's not geokinesis?"
Beck looked over at Annabeth as she walked up. "Hi Blondie."
"We've been over this, kiddo."
"And I'm going to keep calling you that no matter what." Beck smiled a little. "What were you saying?"
"Geokinesis is a general control of earth and earth manipulation. It's often coupled with ferrokinesis, like what Hazel can do." Annabeth shrugged. "Poseidon is the god of earthquakes, not the earth itself."
"So what would that be?" Percy asked.
"Seismokinesis, probably. One of my little brothers is very interested in supernatural demigod powers, I can ask him to be sure of it."
"Alright, we can work with that."
"Work with what?" Beck frowned. She'd made the connection, seismic waves, but she wasn't sure how that was any different from what she had been trying to do.
"Well you've been trying to lift it, right?"
She nodded slowly, confused. "Um, yeah..."
"Wise Girl, grab on." Percy offered Annabeth his arm. She elected to wrap her own arms around his waist, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Try stomping your foot again and thinking about the ground shaking." Percy suggested. A small bubble of water appeared beneath his and Annabeth's feet, and he lifted both of them up just about a foot above the ground.
Beck sighed and closed her eyes. She took a deep breath.
The world rumbled beneath her as she slammed her foot down.
"Perfect!" Percy grinned. Beck opened her eyes and looked around.
There were little cracks running out from the spot she was standing. Nothing seemed structurally unsound around them, but she hadn't seen how far her power sent the shockwave when she did it.
"Okay, so now we know you can do it." Percy and Annabeth landed again and she unwrapped herself from him. "Next step is to find out how strong you can make it."
"How do we do that?" Beck asked.
He held his hand out to her. "Do you trust me?"
Beck blinked in surprise, then laughed a little. "Sorry, the Aladdin parallel always gets me... depends on what you're going to do."
"Well that's a no then, isn't it?" Annabeth chuckled.
Beck shrugged. "I guess so. Just tell me what you're going to do, Percy."
"I was just going to take you out to a little island in the bay." Percy shrugged.
"Absolutely not!"
"Okay, Beck-"
Percy sighed. "Beck, I promise you won't get hurt, you'll be fine! I'll be with you, I'll get you there and back without any issues-"
"I'm not going out into the bay, no way!"
"You can have your eyes closed the whole time, or whatever you need, you don't even have to touch the water. In fact I'll make sure you don't touch the water. You just have to trust me."
Beck shook her head stubbornly. "I'm not going to. I'm not going out there and you can't convince me to."
"Beck you have to figure out your powers somehow." Annabeth pointed out slowly.
"So I'll find another way." She crossed her arms, a little irritated. "I am not going out onto the water in any way. I don't care."
Percy nodded, sighing. "Alright, alright, I'll figure out a way."
