I don't know why I'm doing this, but I somehow don't regret it. What Doc said to me earlier had struck me, and now deciding to listen to that old bastard, I'm heading over to Worick Arcangelo's. According to the business card, I'm supposed to call them. But out of curiosity, I decide to go check out this Police Department first.
I never step over to the Outside when it's light out; I just don't like being discriminated against. I mean, who the hell knows what the Four Fathers are thinking anyway. As I walk past people on the clean sidewalk, I hear murmurs and unpleasant laughter. As I continued walking with my face down, hood up, I accidentally bump into someone and without looking up, I apologized.
"Watch where you're going, you Twilight." The guy said, spitting out the word that I abide with. I look up and there he was, a large man with brown hair.
"Sorry." I articulated.
"Huh? I couldn't hear you." He sneered, waiting to bask in my apologies.
Remember when I said that I try to keep a "low profile" around here? I do try, but when I fail, things get out of hand. And that's when I snapped, because this guy was crossing my border, and I punched him in the face. He shrieked in pain as he tumbled backwards. Everyone on the street stopped what they were doing and formed a circle around us.
"This another fight?" Someone from the crowd whispered.
A child wailed in the distance. "M-Mom...that guy is scary..."
It wasn't intentional, me punching the guy. Knowing the fact that I've caused a commotion and, let's say, a development of propaganda, I stepped away and quickly ran down the street. People eagerly made an aisle for me and as I ran past them, I can feel the fear and hatred in their eyes as they stared me down until I was out of sight. Somewhere in the distance, a police siren was heard. I know that I would be seen easily if I were to continue down this path, so I made a turn into an alleyway in order to avoid the police.
Or so I thought.
Someone jumped in front of me even before I can turn, obstructing my path. When I had a clear view of this person, I immediately recognize him as the A/0 Tag. He looked content and eyed me with a contemptuous look in his eyes. My heart was thumping so loudly that it was probably even audible. There was no where to run.
"You..." I trailed off as Worick appeared from behind him.
"Oh!" He said incredulously. "It's you!"
"...Yeah," I replied slowly. "What are you doing here?"
"Looking for you, of course." He replied. "You sure punched his face in back there, you know? I was astounded that someone like you...without a dose."
I don't say anything. This bastard. What does he know about me? I noticed that some people from the crowd before caught up to me and are watching us. I tried to keep calm, don't want to cause a ruckus, so I just kept it low. "So are you gonna arrest me or what?"
He shook his head and chuckled. "Arrest you? Why would I do that, friend?"
"Tch. I'm not your friend." I muttered. "Then what're you gonna do?"
He sighed with a pained look on his face. "Look, I have no interest in taking you in, Twilight. Nothing personal. I just want to confirm your answer, you know, from yesterday."
"No." I blurted out.
"No...?"
"Now that you've heard my answer, may you leave now?"
"I'm afraid I can't do that." Worick said. "I was sent here to bust up a few guys."
The Tag nudged him in the ribs. Worick cringes and gives him a questioning look. "What? It's not like--"
"Nor...mal..!" The Tag said in a weird accent. Is he a foreigner?
Worick chuckles and then turns to me. "Sorry... My partner, Nic, here is deaf." I don't say anything, but curiosity struck me.
"Was that an.... aftereffect?" I slowly questioned. Celebrer does end up with pretty bad repercussions.
Worick looked at Nic, as if asking him for permission. Nic doesn't budge, but turns around and leans against a wall with his arms crossed. Worick turns back to look at me. "He was born deaf." He replied.
I shrug. I don't tend to have any weird capabilities or defects after dosing, but it seems that I'm probably not the only one. "So, are you out here on a mission to assassinate someone?"
"Of course. That's what we do." Worick said as he pulled out a Pall Mall cigarette stick. "And by the way, if you do change your mind about this, just feel free to call me."
"About what? Didn't I already decline?"
"The position as a Tag." Worick said as he left with Nic. He hurried down into the alley and disappeared out of sight. The cigarette smoke lingers behind, making me crave for a stick. I look around at the crowd who was just here, but they dispersed and are out of sight. But somehow inside, I could feel someone eyeing me, and when I look up at the small apartment buildings, I know that someone is lurking behind the shadows with a murderous grin.
