It was just a couple of seconds of staring into his eyes, but it was more than enough to pull a strong reaction out of me. My hands were clammy, my breath caught in my throat, and my heart was threatening to burst out of my chest. Geez, all this with him staring into my eyes for a couple seconds. I think I'd probably die if the guy were to actually kiss me.

Dominic had already pulled his eyes away from me and was just sitting there with his friends looking like he owned the world. I on the other hand, was busy hyperventilating and trying not to think of a pair of dark blue eyes which could probably look into my soul and stop me from breathing.

Stop it aleady. Snap out of it. Look at the teacher. Listen to the teacher.

I kept repeating it like a mantra and focused my attention on the small balding man at the front of the class. Mr. Rivers was scribbling away on the chalkboard.

"...and this project will pair you with one of your classmates. The grade will be made up of the written paper you submit and the presentation that you will deliver in front of the class after four weeks time. I will be the one choosing the pairings and that will be revealed in our next class together."

Vanessa cursed from beside me, "I hate these stupid projects of his. Its bad enough that we can't be partners, but seriously, what the hell is with a paper AND a presentation? Why can't he ever stick to just one? Why can't he just read the paper and leave us alone like he's supposed to?"

I couldn't help but laugh at Nessa as she continued her rambling. The girl absolutely HATED chemistry so her reactions were always like this. Most of the time I just let her rant, but I knew that she would do whatever she could to stick the project on her partner and pretend that she worked on it too.

I really needed to worry about myself though. I didn't even know what the project was about since I wasn't paying attention to more than half of what was explained. I'd probably just ask the person I'm partnered up with next class, hopefully they were listening.

"Oh c'mon Nessa, it's not that bad. It's just a project. Besides, you really need to get a good grade on this since you've failed every test he's ever given." I said noticing that she was still glaring from her seat.

"Not every test!," she said defensively, "I've passed some of them. I mean they weren't very high scores exactly, but they were still passing!"

I laughed at her again. The only times she had passed was when she had cheated and even then the scores were so low that you couldn't help but laugh mockingly. I decided not to say that out loud though seeing as Nessa was already annoyed enough as it were.

"MISS LYNAR AND MISS REESE!," a voice bellowed scaring the crap out of us both, "Is there something you would like to share with the class?"

Damn. While Nessa and I had been chatting away happily, Mr. Rivers had been staring at us with a sour look on his face.

"He looks so constipated right now." I heard Vanessa whisper.

I struggled not to laugh, which resulted in me letting out a sound which was something in the middle of wheezing and gurgling. I know. I was so attractive.

"There's nothing Mr. Rivers." I forced out.

"I insist," he said, staring me down.

"I insist too," I laughed nervously.

This was the wrong thing to say apparently since he's nostrils suddenly got bigger and his eyes looked like they would shoot fire at any minute.

"Miss Lynar..."

"We were just talking about how good you look today!," I winced at how gross that sounded, but I continued weakly, "...have you been...working out?"

Vanessa burst out laughing and the whole class followed suit.

I turned as red as a tomato. This is what I got for not thinking before I spoke.

Mr. Rivers ears turned almost purple before he ground out, "Detention. The both of you."

Ah crap.

Why was it that I always managed to embarrass myself when the love of my life and possible husband-to-be was around? I sneaked a peak at Dominic. He was chuckling along with the rest of his friends laughing at my big mouth. Sighing, I faced the front of the class and waited for the ground to swallow me whole. Unfortunately, it never did.

When school finally ended we made our way to the gym. Running laps and exhausting myself out at practice was what I needed, but thanks to my balding chemistry teacher, detention and a lecture from our coaches would be what we were getting.

The boys basketball team was already there stretching, as well as Maria who also happened to be my teammate. Vanessa, who was a member of the cheerleading team, spotted her coach with Tracy and nudged my arm, "Wish me luck."

I nodded as she ran off. I looked around and found Coach Taylor by the bleachers writing on her clipboard.

Who was gonna wish ME luck? I thought as I steeled my shoulders and walked toward her direction. Not that she wasn't really nice like I said before, but had a tendency to turn into a bull when it was about basketball.

"Coach," I started when I reached her, "Umm..."

"Bailey, why haven't you changed into your sweats yet?" she frowned looking at my sleeveless white blouse, black shorts and black stilletos.

"Ahhh, sorry coach... Nessa and I kinda got detention today so I can't practice with the team."

The was a brief moment of silence while she stared at me straight in the eye before saying, "I see."

I think I just got goosebumps.

"Alright, well if you insist in fooling around in your other classes and threatening our chances of making it to Championships then go right ahead, but please be advised that this will also threaten your spot as captain of this team."

Did the woman just threaten to remove me as captain after one unattended practice? Unfreakin-believable.

"It won't happen again Coach Taylor," I said confidently, "You know there's nobody who wants that trophy more than I do."

"I hope so, Bailey. You will make up for todays' practice by doing double the workout tomorrow. Don't be late."

I nodded and cringed at the thought of tomorrow's torture. It didn't take a fortuneteller to know that I'd be sore after tomorrow's exercises. The woman wouldn't cut me any slack.

Sighing, I checked out how Vanessa was doing. It looked like she was getting chewed out by her own coach so I sat on the bleachers and let my eyes wander to where the boys were playing. Parker had passed the ball to Roman after getting the rebound and Rome was making his way to their side of the court. Trent was trying to block him, but Rome countered with a fadeaway which earned them two-points.

I smiled. My best friend was an excellent shooting guard.

I continued to watch as Dominic caught the rebound and commanded his team on the floor like any great pointguard.

He had taken his shirt off and the sweat was glistening on his skin as he ran. I licked my lips at the very sexy view I was getting even as my head was screaming at me that I was a pervert.

"OI!," Vanessa practically screamed in my ear, "You've been so busy drooling at the guy you didn't even notice me calling you!"

My eyes widened at how loud she was being, "Shhh! keep your voice down! He might hear you!"

She rolled her eyes at my girlyness and probably at the fact that he was so far away that hearing us was almost impossible, "Hurry up we're gonna be late for detention."

I threw my bag over my shoulder and hurried to catch up. Who rushed to detention anyway?
