"This sucks,"Nessa kept muttering beside me, "like we don't have better things to do with our time."

Shoot me now.

We were already an hour through detention and I wanted to scream. Vanessa had been whisper-complaining so much I thought my ears were gonna fall off.

"Ness, what are you a broken record? You've said that at least a dozen times already."

"This is mostly your fault you know? Oh Mr. Rivers, you're so bangworthy today, have you been going to the gym?, wanna flex those imaginary muscles my way?" she mocked.

"That's not what I said!" I whispered furiously.

Nessa chuckled, "That's what I heard."

"Shut up you deaf little freak," I said as a grin threatened to expose my amusement, "That's disgusting."

"Says the lover."

I flipped her the bird, but let out a small laugh at the stupidity of the conversation. We sat there in amused silence for a while and waited for detention to be over.

"Why do you like him?" she suddenly asked.

I paused.

"Are we still talking about Mr. Rivers?" I answered her question with one of my own.

Nessa snorted, "Dummy, I'm talking about Dominic. I mean he never notices you, you've never even really spoken to the guy, and yet you lap at him like some dog. No offense Bail, but I bet he doesn't even know your name. He's never been serious about any girl and even if you two did get together, he's not going to treat you right."

Vanessa never sugarcoated things and if she didn't like something she was bound to tell it to your face. It was one of the reasons why I loved her, still it didn't stop the hurt that seeped through at her words.

I struggled to defend him, "You remember that time when I was feeling really sick during our first assembly back when we were freshman? My mom had to pick me up and take me home..."

"Not really," she answered a bit confused at where I was going with this.

I continued anyway, "Well it happened, what I never told you though, is that on the way back home I saw Dominic. He was with his parents outside of the Rivercrest Hospital and they looked really serious and stuff... when this little girl came rushing at them laughing."

I looked at her in all seriousness, "You should have seen his face Ness, he lit up at the sight of her. It was obvious he loved her when he scooped her up in his arms and smiled. It's stupid, but I couldn't help but think that I wanted him to look at me like that."

Vanessa looked like she wasn't convinced, "He's not the only guy in the world who can look at a girl with love, Bail. There are others out there who can probably give you more than he ever could, I mean you can't say someone's a good guy, just because of one act of kindness."

"I know, I know," I pouted, "but I don't want to give up on him yet, Ness. He's probably not as perfect as everyone thinks and I'm sure he has more flaws than I would like, but he still turns my knees to jelly and he turns my heart into Titanic bracing for impact. Where else am I going to find a boy that does that to me?"

Vanessa quirked an eyebrow, "Try a themepark, sweetcheeks. Those ride operators will give you the time of your life."

I barked a laugh which earned me a glare from the supervising teacher. I just rolled my eyes at Nessa.

A moment later she muttered softly, "Okay, I won't bring it up again, but make sure he's worth pining for."

~~~~~
"I'll have a supersized burger with fries and a coke." I smiled at the waitress taking our orders.
Detention was finally over and we met up with the rest of our friends at our favorite diner. Vanessa was in a better mood and was talking to Maria about going shopping before the party on Friday. Apparently, her little brother got sick so the family bonding thing was cancelled.
"So Bailey," Max started with a grin, "I heard you hit on your chemistry teacher this afternoon."
I glared daggers at him. Of course Vanessa had told them all about it in her own little warped version.
Tracy started laughing.
"Shut up," I said, "I did no such thing Pee-wee."
I used the nickname we had given to Max when we had all decided to hangout at the themepark in our sophomore year. Max had really needed to pee, but we told him to wait until after the rollercoaster ride was over since we would lose our place in line. He ended up peeing on the ride itself when we were turned upside down.
Max had sworn us to secrecy, but it didn't stop us from using it for teasing and blackmail purposes.
"That is not something you can just say in public, what is wrong with you guys!" he whispered frantically.
I smirked, but decided to go easy on him, "So how was practice? did you guys win?"
Roman let his trademark cocky grin spread, "Of course, was there ever any doubt that the almighty duo of Anderson and Anders..."
Maria interrupted, "They lost to Dominic's team by four points. Trent stole the ball five minutes before the game ended, Rome and Parker never caught up."
I barked out a laugh.
"Was there ever any doubt my ass!" I snorted, "I doubted you from the beginning you pussy!"
Rome smacked away my finger that I had rudely pointed at his chest while I was jokingly insulting him. "It was just a fluke, won't happen again."
Seth chuckled, "I don't know why you guys bother yourselves with clubs and shit when you could be worry free like me!"
Seth hadn't joined any clubs like the rest of us and was always gloating about not being kept after school.
"Why would anyone want to be like you Seth?" Tracy joined in, "You're brain's barely there and you're dick's close to the same."
We all laughed at Tracy's jab.
"Tsk tsk, sweetheart. I had no idea you were so curious about my size," Seth just grinned at her, "Since you're so interested, why don't you let me show you what all the fuss is about. What do you say.? You. Me. Tonight... humping like rabbits...."
Tracy blushed as the rest of us cracked up.
"All right enough talk about rabbithumping! It's decided!" Vanessa clapped her hands, "The girls are going shopping for new outfits for the party. I'm not taking no for an answer."
Nessa pointed rudely in my direction, "You need to start putting yourself in his line of sight. Right now, you're just a little higher than cow dung on his list of things that he appreciates. We need to put you at the top."
I gaped at her, "I'm like cow dung to him?"
Nessa shrugged, "Probably."
Roman choked on his coke and started laughing. I turned to face him and swatted him on the chest. "It's not funny!"
"Sorry, sorry" he sputtered and kissed me on my temple, "I'm sure that's not true... nothing as disgusting as that. You're probably more like kitty litter to him."
I flipped him off and hit him again. I swear, I would finally talk to Dominic at that party even if it killed me.
