Chapter 42

Emily POV

I woke up in a hospital bed and instantly saw a blonde by my side. "Em. Oh my god you're awake." Alison smiled as she sat up straight. "Hey beautiful." I whispered and smiled weakly. "How long was I out?" "Only a few hours. You have minor burns. And smoke in your lungs but you're fine babe. It blocked your ability to breathe so you passed out."

I nodded and said, "Where's Logan?" Alison smiled and stepped to the side, revealing a sleeping Logan Reynolds on the hospital bed beside me. "Is he-"

"He's fine. Just asleep." I nodded and sighed. I winced and looked down at my hand that was bandaged. "Your skin was burnt there." The doorknob. That makes sense. "Okay I have to ask. Em...are you adopting him?" Alison said, her eyes sorrowful towards Logan. "Yes."

"Em-"

"Alison, I witnessed him getting abused. No person deserves that. Especially not him. I'm going to be his mom and i'm going to take care of him. I love him Alison. I want him to be my son. Nobody else is good enough for that kid." I sat up and Alison said, "oh no. Doctor says you need to relax."

"I'm fine." I rolled my eyes and sat in the chair next to Logan's bed and smiled, grabbed his hand and whispered, "Loganator. Wake up bud." He fluttered open his eyes and when he saw me he instantly sat up and hugged me, "You're awake!"

I chuckled and smiled, "Of course I am kiddo." I caught up with Logan, as in asking him about his cancer and how happy he is he's survived and fought it hard enough to win. Then he asked, with almost a scared tone, "Am I going to the orphanage?"

I frowned, "Why would you say that? Didn't you hear what I said before?" He shrugged and said, "I thought you were just saying that to make me feel better." A chuckle escaped my lips and I cupped his cheek with my hand, "Logan. I love you. And I want you to be my son. I want to adopt you buddy...that is, if you want me to?" I said and a wide smile formed on his lips, "Yes! I love you too Emily!" He enveloped me in a tight hug and I laughed as I held him in my arms. "Aw. Look at them!" I turned to see a pregnant Hanna Marin and happy Charlotte watching Logan and I next to Ali. I smiled brightly as I looked at the little boy sitting on the hospital bed. "What do you say we go home yeah?" I offered up and he grinned, "home?"

I smirked lightly but sweetly, "home bud." He got out of his bed and I helped him stand his oxygen tank up. The doctor had to make sure I was okay and then we all left. I sat next to Logan the whole time and he had his head on my shoulder, now sound asleep again. Poor kid. He's been through way to much for his age. And I will assure him that his life will be better from now on. I will protect him with my life.

And then Alison. God Alison. I still love her, of course. But it is still dangerous. Her hair dye finally came out and it's back to it's gorgeous blonde again. We have been doing good as friends. I think. "Penny for your thoughts?" The blue eyed beauty whispered and I realized I was out of it for a while. "Just thinking...about how hard his life has been...and other things." Alison nodded and said, "what other things?"

She clearly knows. "You, me, us."

"Right. What about me, you and us?"

"Nothing it's just...Never mind." "Oh no Emily Fields. You tell me right now. Or I will beat your ass." She playfully whispered and I laughed quiet enough so Logan won't wake. "That we are doing good for being friends." I said and she gazed into my eyes intently, "yeah. Yeah we are." She put her hand on top of mine and I felt electricity surge through me, "You're going to make an amazing mother." I smiled and said, "Thank you. And one day, you will too. Whether it's with me or not." I added a wink and she laughed and rolled her eyes.

When we got to my apartment I bought a while back I just put Logan in my bed and everyone came over. "So what from here? School?" Caleb said and I shrugged, "I'll stay for graduation which is in 2 days. Then from there? I'll figure it out."

"Emily...if you're going to be adopting a child, you can't go into the army. It's not right. For Logan. For anyone. He needs a stable parent right now and he needs to be assured that you won't leave him." Spencer explained to me and I bit my lip, pondering a decision. But I already knew my answer. "Logan. I'm not leaving that kid. I'll stay. For him." Clearly my words made everyone happy because they all sighed of relief.

"I should get going. See you tomorrow Em. Han, come on babe." Charlotte said and Hanna nodded, standing up and Charlotte hugged me and left, Hanna following. "We should too." Spencer and Aria left, leaving just Caleb, Alison and I. "So...talk about old times huh?" I joked and Caleb and Alison giggled.

Alison looked at Caleb and he smiled at her warmly. Now it clicked. Alison can get back with Caleb to get over me. It's the perfect plan. If Alison gets back with my brother, then she can finally get over me and we will both be able to move on. "I'll be right back." I said and stood up, walking around the wall and listened, waiting for them to talk.

"We haven't been alone in a while." Caleb commented and I took a quick glance at my room where Logan was sleeping. "Yeah...how have you been Caleb? Any new girls?"

"Nah. I can't." I got a peek at Alison and she was frowning, "How come?"

"I didn't get over the last girl I was with." His voice was shy and I rolled my eyes at his stupid moves. "Who was tha-oh." Alison was looking right into Caleb's eyes and I smiled, hoping she'd do it and she did. Her lips met Caleb's and he kissed her back. Ye-wait. Why am I not happy? I feel...jealous? No. We broke up, she deserves to move on...but I can't help this fire that lit up inside me just at seeing them kiss. I felt like I was back where I started. My brother's girlfriend. I'm the sister. We're starting over. This is my chance though! I have to find someone else. To get over the heart-shaped face queen.

I walked back in, putting on the best smile I could, "Well well, what do we got here?"

They jumped apart and Alison looked happy, yet shocked. "Oh uh uh-"

"Don't worry Caleb." I said as I cut him off. "We broke up. Enjoy my sloppy seconds." I knew it was rude, I did but it just came out. My jealousy is taking over and by the way Alison was looking at me I knew she was hurt. "Em it's not-"

"No really, you guys have my blessing. Seriously." I smiled and said, "I'm gonna head to bed. You can stay if you want. If you leave, lock up please." I said and nodded to Alison's set of my apartment keys.

I winked and walked away, into my room and shut the door, closing my eyes as I slid down the surface to the ground. Well that was hard. I put on pajamas and walked over to the bed. I got under the covers next to Logan and I felt him move closer and his eyes opened, making me smile.

"Why are you awake?"

He smiled lightly and said, "I wanted to wait for you."

With that, not another word was said. I took him into my arms and he curled up, his head on my chest. I kissed the top of his head and said one more thing, "I love you Logan."
