The gene

Ludo stood up still in his cat form and walked over to me, he crawled onto my lap and started purring. All I could do was just stare at the two animals that were also humans.

(This is all kinds of strange, how am I supposed to react to this?)

"and don't think that you don't play a role in this curse jade." Ludo said looking up at me.

"Don't tell me that I'm gonna start transforming into animals!!" I said looking shocked.

"no no, it's not like that, girls can't get the curse." Charlie said trying to clam me.

"Jade you are the last of your kind." Ludo looked serious now.

"W-what do you mean 'my kind'?" I stuttered.

"we mean that you have a certain gene in your body that allows you to see us." Charlie explained.

"what you mean like other people can't see you??" I questioned.

"no, they can see us it's just that if they saw us in our animal form we would get in big trouble with our god." Charlie continued.

"You on the other hand have permission to see us." Ludo said as he climbed off my lap and back to the floor.

"ok, I'm not quite sure I understand." I thought for a second "why am I the only one?"

"Because your father, he also carried the gene he had what we would call the sight. He was there to undo the curse, and it was the zodiac animals' job to protect him, but he was killed by Zander the demon god. Zander is the one who cursed us, in fact Ludo knows him quite well because of his curse." Charlie said looking and Ludo. Ludo hissed at Charlie and unsheathed his claws.

"Bastard you can't tell her that!" hissed Ludo.

"and why can't I? She should be allowed to know!" Charlie barked back. Ludo walked over to where his clothes were lying in a pile, he sifted through the clothes and stuck his head in his pants pocket. When he pulled his small black head back out he had a knife in his mouth. He stalked back over to Charlie.

"come on, try to beat me in a fight!" he hissed in Charlie's face.

"ha you think that you can defeat me, even with a knife?" Charlie lifted his head and laughed. Ludo's face tightened, and he sprung at Charlie. Charlie dodged his attack and bit down on Ludo's back, Ludo shrieked in pain.

(I need to stop them somehow!)

I jumped up and slapped Charlie on the face, and Charlie dropped Ludo and backed up in shock. I quickly grabbed the knife out of Ludo's mouth, and threw it across the cave. I fell onto the floor in a slouch, when I looked up I saw Charlie in his human form pulling on his pants. I looked down at the ground blushing, then I saw Ludo limping over to me. Once Charlie was all dressed he walked out of the cave. I was about to fallow him when I felt a hand on mine I looked over and saw Ludo in human form naked.

"EEEEE y-your naked!!!" I screamed. I quickly looked away and my face started to burn.

"it's ok." he said calmly "I don't mind if you see me."

"yeah well I do!" I said closing my eyes "please put some clothes on!"

"fine, I'll only do it for you my love." he said as he turned and started to get dressed.

"a-are you done?" I whispered.

"yes, you can look now." he said. I half expected him to still be naked, but he wasn't thank goodness. He sat back down next to me and grabbed my hand. "what happened?" he said looking at my palm, I looked down and my hand was covered in blood. My eyes widened.

"oh it must have been from when I grabbed the knife from you." I sighed. Ludo looked at my hand again, pulled it closer to his face. "w-what are you doing?" I questioned.

"it was my fault that you got this cut, so I'll fix it." he pulled my hand closer to his mouth and licked the blood away.

"EEEWWW why did you do that!?" I said pulling my hand away.

"to heal you, why else would I have done it?" he said sounding utterly confused.

"well that's not typically something that someone would do to another person's cut! What were you thinking?"

"look at your hand." he said calmly. I lifted up my hand and took a look at it.

"I-its gone, the cut is gone!"

"That's one of the perks of being half demon." he said sounding ashamed of being half demon "but my mom always said that I'm not a demon, I am who I chose to be." he said with a small smile.

"I'd better go find Charlie and apologize to him." I said frowning. " I shouldn't have hit him like that."

"Jade it's not your fault that he was being a dick." Ludo said laughing.

"even so, I still need to say that I'm sorry."

"alright do what you want." he said smiling. As I was about to stand Ludo grabbed my shirt and pulled me into a hug. "I'm so glad that we got to meet each other." he whispered.
