Memory-filled Sleep

She prepares for sleep

She closes her eyes

And sees her life flashing

The first time her father swung her around

When she got her puppy at the pound

When she started school

Her first play audition

She remembered all the laughs

All the tears

All the anger

And all the joy

As she prepared for her sleep

Her eyes closed

She wondered if she would

make the memories keep going

She saw into her future

What it would be like

She liked what she saw

But it also made her afraid

She saw her graduation

both from high school and college

She saw her proposal

And she saw her marriage

She saw her be told she was pregnant

She saw them saying she lost the baby

She saw another pregnancy

And a baby boy named Luis

She saw him graduate

And saw his marriage

And his death

Way before hers

She saw her husband's death

Way too many tears shed throughout the years

As her breathing stopped from old age

A smiled formed on her lips

She came back to the present

But still she dove in to her sleep

And the memories all stopped

And everything went black

She would never wake again.
