Faith

There should always be three guys in your life —the one you like, the one that likes you and the one who helps clear your mind. Xander was the third one. As much as he was dashingly beautiful, I couldn't bring myself to feel something concrete for him. His kisses did sometimes make me reconsider that affirmation though. I'm sure if we had more time...

I couldn't help remembering what Brendan had said about him yesterday. Xander's not a good guy...

What did he intend by that?

"Somebody looks conflicted. What are you thinking about?" Xander asked me, as we sat down on the floor of his living room, my head resting on his lap.

"Whatever you're thinking about," I replied, sheepishly. Xander looked down at me and, without a warning, seized my face with his hands and kissed me. It was warm and somehow cold, but pleasant. Definitely pleasant.

I kept my eyes closed, trying to suppress the pit in my stomach I had dubbed anxiousness. I couldn't bring myself to tell him that we couldn't see each other anymore, and that if we did, my dad would probably track him down across the entire country.

His mouth left my lips and trailed to my cheek, jaw, neck and collarbone, and although it felt extremely good, I pushed him away. I was only hurting him and myself furthermore.

"Faith, what's wrong?" he asked.

I didn't answer him. I couldn't even dare looking into his eyes. He noticed and grabbed my chin with his fingers, forcing me to look at him. The depth of his green eyes definitively didn't help me concentrate.

I shut my eyes tightly, gathering all of the strenght I had in me to do this.

"I need to go to the bathroom."

I was such a baby, chickening out on my cue to tell him what was bothering me.

"That's it?" he chuckled, exposing a row of white teeth. "Bathroom's all the way up this corridor."

I faintly smiled, knowing the ball in my stomach would never disappear, even after a quick trip to the bathroom. I got up, heading inside the narrow hallway Xander had indicated, and was met with two doors at its extremity.

I twisted the door on my left open, and entered it, before realizing that this really wasn't Xander's bathroom, but his bedroom. Oh well. I was about to turn around and quickly back out, but my stare caught three tiny shiny photographs that lied on the floor before my feet.

I bent down and picked them up.
