Castle

Prince Enjolras walked down the stairs of his grand castle. His parents had made him throw a ball to find a wife. He didn't want a wife. He didn't need one. He didn't have time for a wife. At least he got to pick who it would be. Everyone was going, and he was happy to throw a ball for everyone, no matter how poor or rich. He was expecting a great turnout and he was excited. Besides the part where he had to find a wife.

Eponine put on her nicest dress. Which wasn't all that nice anyway. She tried to tame her tangled hair by running her hands through it. There. She thought. This was her best. And the prince was either going to take it or leave it because she certainly wasn't going to change who she was for him. She didn't want a Cinderella story. She didn't want a fairy godmother. He was either going to take her or leave her. This is the only option that he would get.

Eponine peered through the giant doors to the palace. There were already so many people dancing around. Suddenly she felt nervous. What would they think of her? Would the royal family just laugh in her face? Say she is not worth of any title? She was about to turn back but a large group of girls were headed her way and she didn't want to fight through them. She cautiously walked through the doors. She gazed at the grand chandelier that hung over all the dancers. She wondered if it would fall.

That would be tragic. Maybe Erik would swoop down and sweep her off her feet.

Eponine was pulled out of her dream when a couple bumped into her laughing and not paying any attention. How could they be drunk already? The ball started about 45 minutes ago.

The prince walked on the edge of the ballroom. He tried to avoid many people. He wanted to go to the women. Not have them flocking him. But that didn't stop the massive crowd of women following him.

He kept his gaze trained ahead of him in pure concentration. He heard the constant clicking of heels behind him but he tried to ignore them. But then he saw her.

A small girl held herself in her arms. She wore a dark green dress that hung around her thin frame. Her hair had small tangles in it but he could see under the small layer of dirt, she was beautiful. Her deep brown eyes and her hair that hung just below her elbow. Her beautiful face.

He had to meet her.

He walked up to the girl and she didn't notice him. She kept her eyes on the dancers. He taped her shoulder and she jumped.

"I'm so sorry, did I startle you?"
"Oh!" She quickly started to brush down her dress. "Only for a second. May I ask your name?"

She doesn't know me. She must live pretty far from the palace. Maybe if he...

"I'm Enjolras." He nodded his head.
"Eponine." She smiled a beautiful smile.

Eponine

"Like Sabinus and Eponine"
She brightened a bit.
"Yes! Not many people know about that. It was a very old opera. I wish I could see it."
"I've read about it, it's very interesting..."

The rest of the night we talked. I knew that I like her, I think she was the one. I found out that she lived farther out and lives on her own. She said she came here in hopes of meeting the prince, but she doesn't even know his name and I replied with a smart, "maybe you do and just don't know it." And she laughed. She has a beautiful laugh.

At the end of one conversation, I knew it was time to tell her.

"Eponine?"

"Yeah?"

"So, I have to tell you,"

She looked confused yet eager to know what I was about to say.

"I am the prince."

She stood shocked.

"Really?"

"Really."

She started to blush.

"I am so sorry! I didn't know!"

My eyes went wide at her and put my hands on her shoulders.

"Hey! It's okay, it made our conversation easier and you got to know the real me. You may be the only on to."

She stood staring at me for a second with her mouth barley open. She then smiled.

"Why did you come up to me?"

"I thought you were stunning. Your personality matched it too."

Her face became a deep shade of crimson. But then her smile faltered.

"But, I am poor. I have nothing I can offer you. This,"

She gestured down to her clothes,

"Is the best I have. I'm not fit for royalty."

I offered her a small smile.

"To be honest, no one is. But I will be there for you."

She smiled at that.

"You do have a way with words monsieur."

I offered her my arm.

"May I have this dance."

"Oui."

Should I do a part two? This took a while but I am also thinking on writing another enjonine book because I can't get enough of them. So if I do, please check it out and tell me if I should do a part to of this one shot.

Much love, Alex
