10 Days With Fatty

Chapter three: Naïve Newcomers

                                                  ~ * ^ * ~

"Hey you" She didn't even look up, just carried on eating her one apple that she always had for lunch never having anything else so that people couldn't have more fuel for the fire of insults.

Someone slipped into the seat opposite her; she was so surprised that she looked up to see this new person.

That was a mistake.

The person cringed slightly; obviously he tried not to.

He must be new

"Hello?" He waved a hand in front of her face and she blinked and stared. No-one got that close to her, no-one since Father and the nurses. She was stunned into silence but pulled herself together, she hadn't talked to anyone in ages, she thought she might have forgotten how.

"Hello" Her thick English accent rolled off her tongue in a slow clumsy word, it sounded dumb and stupid but he smiled politely in response probably looking into her eyes as it was the only un-fat part of her body, it was where the teachers looked, if they looked at her at all.

"Wow, that's a cool accent. You a Brit?" She nodded solemnly and returned back to her apple, chomping down on it, the apple juices squirting into her mouth bursting out a strong taste which sparkled on her tongue. She cherished the taste, she loved food. If she was more able, she would want to be a chef, or cook or something to do with blending normal tastes to make them spectacular.

"Cool" He didn't lose his polite smile, but she had no idea if it was genuine or not, due to the fact that she would have to look into his eyes and that would mean seeing the ugly beast that he saw reflected in them. She knew what she would see anyway, horror, disgust, pity maybe. No, he can go stuff his eyes up his ass for all she cared. He was probably on a dare anyway, seeing what reaction he could get from the freak. She'd had a few of them before, once she fell for it, desperate for a friend, but that was the first time and they had given up since then, bored that she didn't react dramatically.

She ignored him as she finished her apple and waited for him to leave. He didn't.

What was wrong with this dude? She was surprised that no-one had come up to him and told him the 'rules' about her. She had laughed herself to sleep once, not the happy type, over the stupid, mean rules that she had seen put up in the common room, before a teacher noticed and took it down. But it had been posted on the internet and they hadn't even tried to hack in and take that off, they just didn't care. She didn't really go on the computer anyway, never been interested in technology. She preferred proper books which couldn't get wiped, there were tons of books. She loved the smell and texture of them as well, but mainly she had never been shown how to use a computer or phone or TV so she couldn't use them. Things happened with books though, they seem more real when you read them, like it's really happened or is happening like a journal from long, long ago or a diary from an average kid.

Her train of thought was disturbed by the boy getting up, sliding his chair back with a tortured screech, and finally leaving, probably with great relief.

She sighed as the Cafeteria emptied and started her painful get-up routine. It was always shameful and embarrassing, that's why every time she left it until everybody had left so that no-one saw it and laughed. She hated herself for her inability to do anything physical and envied the people who could eat as much as they wanted and not get the slightest bit fatter, which sounds impossible but it really isn't. Three quarters of the school was like that, big appetites>slim bodies.

They don't appreciate being slim, they don't know how lucky they really are.
