10 Days With Fatty
Chapter five: Dare. Stupid Boy.

She arrived at school and was confronted by the normal chants and insults thrown at her. None of them were really bothered today and most just ignored her like always. Maybe today was going to be more quiet.

Lunchtime swung around quick enough and Jamie grabbed her apple and sat at her designated table. The rest of the students flooded in and sat down the social buzz increasing every second. In the corner of her eye she noticed Fiona's and Mickey's group heading through the glass doors some splitting off in twos or threes to line up in the lunch cue. Fiona sat down with Mickey and Zak at an empty table and carried on their conversation, Fiona's ear-splitting laugh piercing through the cafeteria buzz whenever Mickey finished a sentence. She was such a flirt, whore, slut... she could go on naming all the names for Fiona but her thoughts were interrupted by such a small thing she wouldn't have noticed before. Fiona's possy as normal was coming back from the lunch cue, as always, one girl carrying Fiona's lunch and her own. Mickey's and Zak's boys were flirting with the girls as normal but there was one that caught her eye. That new boy was walking with them chatting to one of the girls who was obviously into him already. He seemed to be in another world, smiling politely at the gushing girl whose cheeks kept flushing red like a tomato.
She didn't know why she noticed, so she shook her head and forgot about the stupid new boy who would soon bring hell to her with new insults. She couldn't help but watch the group who talked and flirted, the normal. But then Zak said something and the group made a rough circle, Fiona sitting on Mickey's lap. Huh, they got together again then. A group of girls walked past blocking Jamie's view for a minute as they stopped right there, the bitches, and hugged someone as they greeted them. Hearing the name Miffy called out several times rang a bell in her head of a week before when she overheard the same group of people. If she remembered correctly Miffy was coming back from a holiday in some hot place near the Caribbean with her rolling-in-it rich family. Her parents bribing the school to let her miss it, it was a usual occurrence as Miffy's family always went on holiday. Miffy wasn't her real name, that was just what her friends called her. She used to be called Matilda until that became uncool to use. It seemed when her name changed so did her personality, power corrupts. That's what they say, she used to be a caring person, until she moved up to high school and she became shallow and vain due to popularity.
The group finally moved off and Jamie saw the others again from across the cafeteria. After watching for a while they seemed to be playing some sort of game, after some girl randomly went up to a boy separate from the group she realised it was truth or dare. When the girl got back she was blushing furiously, maybe the dare was to kiss her crush or something. She wouldn't know, she's only played it once and that's only because they wanted to give her horrible dares. Like to eat some poo, or to run around the playground shouting 'I'm fat'. She shivered from the memory and carried on chomping on her half eaten apple.
It was the new boys turn now, the group's hulk eyes staring at him like he was the next meal. He said something, and a few of the boys whooped.
That confirmed it. Dare. Stupid boy.
The girl who kissed the boy, who had been slapped on the back by his friends in congratulations after the kiss maybe she asked him out? Anyway, the girl chirped up to say something but got the evils from Fiona. She instantly shut her mouth and looked down shamed. Fiona stuck up her nose superiority rolling off her in waves Jamie could feel it from here. Fiona's clogs turned in her head as she thought of a dare for the new boy, when she clicked a wicked smile flashed across her face and she glanced meaningfully at Jamie who locked gazes in stark surprise and froze. Jamie saw the plan formulate and concrete in her mind through her eyes, Jamie fought the urge to shudder and when Fiona dropped her gaze, no-one else noticing the brief contact, Jamie felt like she could drop. A horribly feeling ran through her and she stood up as quickly and un-noticeably as she could and left rapidly, chucking her apple core in a black bin bag tied to a door handle as she left.
She was overreacting, but she was scared now. What was Fiona planning? How did she know she was staring at her? What horrid dare will she give that poor naïve new boy? Was it anything to do with her? Alarming questions flitted through her mind as she made her way to the girl's bathroom, banging through the door and almost slipping over on the wet floor. A yellow sign was struck up warning about the wet floor; the image had red lipstick covering it so you couldn't tell what the image actually was.
She leaned against the sink and looked straight at the mirror. She studied herself, her chubby cheeks and spotty face, giant flabs rolled over each other as her triple chin was more like four. Moles and warts dotted her face like a witch with one on the side of her crooked nose. She had a burn on her head near the front about four inches in diameter which made a disgusting bald patch above her forehead, the scar tissue wrinkled and pinkie white. Her just below shoulder length hair was matted, greasy, with millions of split and dead ends. It was all ruffled up like she had gone through a holly bush backwards and a bird had made a nest on her head. She was an utter mess, no-wonder people found it hard to look at her. But she didn't care, even if she made an effort every morning Fiona and Mickey and Zak and their followers would still pick on her for they would remember what she looked like now, and their image of Jamie Anne Louis would always be the same. Ugly, disgusting, scared, fat. She would never live that down.
