'I'm sorry sir, she went home yesterday,' the woman at the front desk said, looking at him with an apologetic expression.
'Oh, okay. Thank you,' he replied. Why hadn't his brother told him they had gone home? It would have saved him some of his precious time if he had known. He strolled away from the desk with his head down, staring at the clean, white tiles. He was heading towards the doors when a sweet voice had caught his attention.
'Tsukishima-san!'
He turned his head around to see {First Name} at his heels at a half walk and half run. He wasn't expecting to see her again. She looked about the same since he had first met her only this time, that smile of hers wasn't as bright and she looked just a little more sickly than before. She caught up and kept a surprisingly good pace with him for someone at her height.
'{Surname}-san? What are you doing here?' He tried his best to sound surprised. They had exited the hospital and traveled a decent distance.
'Just finished another check-up,' she said, staring up at him. 'Visiting your sister-in-law and nephew?'
Kei shook his head, his gaze had shifted upward to the blue skies. 'They went home yesterday.'
'So you're not busy at the moment?' She asked though her tone made it sound she already knew the answer.
'Don't think so.'
'Good. Now Tsukishima-san, do you like cake?'
He cocked an eyebrow at such an unrelated topic. However, from what he gathered from his short time with her, it seemed like a question that would leave her mouth. His eyes wandered over to her, showing a look of confusion plastered on his face at her bright grin.
'Yeah, why?' He replied, fighting the urge to laugh at her eager personality. Truth be told, he found her childishness quite amusing.
'There's a little café around here that's pretty famous for their cakes. I sure you'll love 'em.'
'This is the second you've met me, how do you know I'll enjoy it?'
'I'll just take a risk and say you will,' she said shrugging. 'And if you don't like them then oh well, I tried. But if you do, then I did something good.'
She skids to a halt in front of a little building, opening the doors for both of them. The smell of pastries was overwhelming and they were all displayed neatly beside and behind the register. The place was filled with customers and they were all either working or deep in their conversations. There were people discussing practically every subject though he couldn't care less what they were saying.
{Fist Name} had seated herself at a nearby table just by the door; anyone walking by the small café could easily see them. She gestured Kei over with her hand, her bright grin still present on her face.
'I'll order for both of us. What are you planning on getting?' She asked as he sat down across from her. Her eyes were glued to their selection of cakes by the counter.
'I don't know,' he lied, his eyes scanning his options, looking for a certain cake he hoped they had.
'Made a choice yet?' She said, getting up from her seat. She was starting to make her way to the counter, ears still waiting for his order.
'Strawberry shortcake,' he replied before she was out of earshot. She gave him a thumbs up to show that she had heard him.
He watched her walk with that liveliness in every step she took and how her hair voiced with each of them. His eyes were glued to her as she ordered and paid, her smile never faltering in the slightest. He didn't know about this girl but only after two meetings, she had become one of the few he genuinely enjoyed being with.
'Here is your cake sir,' she laughed, setting his plate down in front of him before sitting down. As her body had hit the chair, she started on consuming her own {favorite cake} cake.
'Slow down fatty,' he teased, taking the first bite of his strawberry shortcake. He had to admit, she was right that this place was famous for these cakes. The taste was amazing. She shoved large forkfuls of her cake into her mouth and he was grateful that she was a decent enough person to not talk while eating.
He somehow felt attracted to the way she was childishly eating her food and making a mess in the process, finding himself enjoying her overall adolescent attitude. This wasn't the first person he had met someone so immature but it was the first he took a liking to so quickly.
A/N: Not sure about the ending to this chapter but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I wasn't expecting to see such positive comments and so many votes so thank you so much! I can't promise that I'll be better with updating but I can say that I'll try.
