'Thank you for joining me today,' she smiled at him. 'I haven't been out with friends lately.' She had scarfed down her cake in less than five minutes and now wished to engage in small talk.
'Friends?' He question, cocking an eyebrow at her statement. Would you consider someone you've only talked to a few times your friend? Who was he to judge her, he wasn't the best with connecting with people either.
'Well, I guess we aren't really friends,' She suddenly seemed shy about her mistake. 'We're sort of friends then?'
'There's a word for that,' he replied. 'It's called an acquaintance.'
'Well, um,' she averted her gaze towards the people walking on the sidewalk. 'So, what do you do Tsukishima‐san?'
'I'm a college student.'
'Oh, I guess you don't go to the University of Tokyo? I used to go there but I had to drop out. I feel like if you went there I should remember a face like yours.'
'How sick are you?' He didn't mean to sound rude, it was just how his words usually sounded when he spoke. And he wasn't completely sure that her illness was the reason she dropped out. It really was none of his business, like he said, just acquaintances.
'Um. Very?' She let out a nervous laugh. 'But I shouldn't burden you with that kind of information; I was told that I'm getting better anyway. So what high school did you go to?'
'Karasuno High School.'
'Oh wait! I think I remember you! You played middle blocker for the boys' volleyball team, right? I used to go to all the games to cheer Kuroo and Kenma on.'
'You know those two?' He seemed slightly surprised, he didn't know how popular Kuroo was at Nekoma but he hadn't heard from the male for a while. Hearing his name felt strange and it brought back some memories from the past.
'I used to hang around them in high school since they were the only people who would even go near me.'
'Was it because of your illness?'
'Maybe. Maybe not. I wasn't the most popular kid.'
He felt, what is it? Bad? He tried to carry on the conversation, he really did but after staring at her for so long, he couldn't help but notice how sickly she actually looked. Getting better my ass, if anything, she was probably dying. Despite just meeting her not too long ago, he didn't want her to die. He brushed off the feeling, saying that no one should be apathetic when it comes something so serious. Not even him.
He couldn't stop bringing it up, though. He wanted to know more about what was happening to her. He didn't know her and it was none of his business. It might just be the fact that he was studying medicine and that this just seemed interesting. Or there could be another reason.
A/N: Woah, school has been stressful but I promise that I'll try to do better. I published this story almost a year ago and we only have three parts? I guess we gotta fix that. I wrote this chapter in one night and I'm publishing in the same night so sorry if it's not very good.
