《Cecilia's pov》
I heard footsteps in the hallways. It was still dark outside so I stayed in bed. I heard whispers in the hallways.

"Do you think she's ready? " A voice said in the hallway.

Another voice scolded the first one. "She is perfect for the sacrifice." Then I heard the door creak.

The light from a candlestick headed my way so I immediately shut my eyes. They grabbed the person behind me, Melissa. I didn't know what to do.

After they left with Melissa, I quietly got out of bed and opened the door slightly. I saw the candle's light going down the stairs.

I opened the door when the hinges creaked. Damn it! I stayed still until I was sure no one heard me. I walked quietly down the stairs and followed the light.

Two of the nuns were carrying Melissa down to the Forbidden Door. No one was ever allowed in the room behind the Forbidden Door.

After they went through the door, I followed them in. It wasn't a room at all, it was a dark tunnel that lead to who knows where.

After I passed the dark tunnel, I saw a bright light coming from the exit of the tunnel. I stayed inside the tunnel and took a moment to adjust my eyes to the light.

There was a huge white room with people in cloaks. There were cages surrounding a white table, big enough for a child to lie down on.

For some reason, I felt like I've been here before. I was knocked out of my trance when I heard a scream.

I saw Marissa kicking, screaming, and shouting,"What are you doing!?! Let me go!" I saw a mark being branded onto Marissa. I immediately felt burning on the back of my neck when she was branded.

I could see some of the masked people grinning. There was one person standing in front of Marissa, holding a knife above her. "The ultimate sacrifice! " He shouted.

I couldn't do anything. I turned to look away but then I heard her scream. "Someone save me!"

She was the only friend I've ever had. I promised to protect her. I ran out of my hiding spot then pushed the man holding the knife. Now everyone noticed me. I saw Marissa with tears in her eyes. "Cecilia."

"Come on." I grabbed Marissa's hand. I pulled her off of the table and looked around for an exit. The tunnel had been blocked and people were surrounding us. Then I blacked out.

When I woke up, Melissa was leaning over me. She looked so happy and hugged me. "Melissa what happened?"

"Umm uhh." She didn't say anything else. When I looked around, we were still in the room. But it was different. There was blood on the walls and everyone was dead. "What do we do now?" She asked me.

I pointed at the tunnel. "We should leave." We ran through the tunnel. When we got out, it was dawn outside. Good then we can leave. I opened the window closest to us and we jumped out. No one was on the streets.

"Where do we go?" She seemed really calm, after that terrifying experience.

"Anywhere but here." I replied and grabbed her hand. We ran away from the orphanage.
