《Third person pov》
It was after dawn in the morning. Cecilia sat next to the window. She looked bored and wasn't very excited for the next couple of weeks. There were new orphans coming the next day.During those next couple of weeks, people would be looking at them, deciding who to adopt. She never got adopted and knew she never would.
She closed her eyes and felt the wind breezing through her hair through the open window. When she heard people talking outside her window, she looked out and saw several young children. But one of them interested her the most.
A blond almost white haired girl with thin black strings on her wrists looked different from the other brown haired children. Must be from America. She thought.
She looked away from the window when she saw the blonde smiling directly at her. She closed the window then drew the curtains.
One of the nuns at the orphanage, Sister Maria, was walking up the stairs to the room she was in. Cecilia heard her then jumped into bed. She was not supposed to be up and awake.
Sister Maria opened the door then pounded on it. "Wake up!" All the orphans in the room woke up and started getting out of bed. Cecilia was the first one out of the room.
She hurried down the stairs before anyone else got there. Breakfast was usually rough. There was always nothing left for the late ones.
By the time she got down the stairs, she noticed the line for food was empty. She ran forward and stopped in front of the nun serving food, Sister Patricia.
She grabbed her food and saw the rest of the orphans running down the stairs. She quickly got out of the way and sat down.
When she was halfway finished with her food, she noticed some of the kids who didn't get food were the new ones, including the blonde.
The blonde walked over to her table and sat near her. She looked down at her empty bowl. Cecilia moved closer to her. "Here you can have mine." She pushed her bowl towards her.
"Sorry, I can't. " She pushed it back to her.
"Just take it. It's going to be like this every day you know." She smiled. "I'm Cecilia."
"My name is Melissa." She replied shyly. "Thank you." She picked up her fork and started eating.
"Don't mention it. This is the only time I'm letting you eat my food. Try to get here before the others." She grinned.
《Cecilia's pov》
Melissa was really sweet. We started talking about stuff and things. "Could you tell me about your life before you came here?" I asked her.She smiled, showing two rows of pearly white teeth. "Well I used to live in America. My parents died because of an illness so I was sent here." She frowned. "But I'm glad I met you. What about your life?"
That's a question I've been asking myself for a long time. "I never knew my parents or maybe I knew them but I can't remember them anymore."
She held my hand. "Don't worry, you might remember them someday." Yeah might. Then the bell rang.
"Alright, get to work!" Sister Dolores, the head of the nuns, shouted.
Melissa and I had to separate. I didn't see her for the rest of the day.
Later that evening, I found out Melissa was staying in the room where I was. She was so glad when she found out.
"Promise me you'll protect me." She said before going to sleep.
"Promise." And I always keep my promises.
