"Now you said they forgot about you. Did you mean the other angels? What were they like?" He asks. I feel a sour look fall on my face as I think back to what my brothers were like.
"Pricks." I answer shortly. He frowns at me for not giving him a full answer. "I can tell you a story about my brothers and I interacting. It was the day I got my assignment, it was the first major assignment any angel had ever been sent on. And it was the most dangerous but we'll talk about that later. Do you want to hear the story?" I ask him and he nods enthusiastically. I take a deep breath. "Okay."
' "We need an angel who is willing to go to the pit. The people there need to be rehabilitated so that they can come here." Michael says.
"Why would anyone want to go there? We're all happy here. Why don't we just let those people rot in the pit? It shouldn't have to be our problem." Lucifer says.
"It is our problem. Some of these people never did anything wrong and we have to help whoever will accept it," Michael says, "I know it's not ideal but it it has to be done. Am I going to get a volunteer or will I have to force one of you to go?" I looked around the room and say that all of the angels even the warriors had fear in their eyes, so I did probably the dumbest thing I will ever do.
"I'll go." I say raising my hand. Everyone gasps and stares at me. Even Michael is surprised that I spoke up.
"Are you quite sure you want to? It's not exactly paradise. You're also one of our best warriors. We would hate to lose you." Michael says. He's trying to talk me out of it because he thinks I'm not prepared.
"Stop trying to talk me out of it. Everyone here hates me and I know you do. You won't even know that I'm gone." I say. He slams his fist down on the table and stands.
"There is no hate here. Only strong dislike. You are one of our most talented angels. Your voice can kill people. You have some of the strongest weapons. You make your own weapons which is almost unheard of. You stand on a whole other level from the rest of us. Heck, I think you've even talked to the big man himself which, by the way, is also unheard of." He says. His voice is steadily rising.
"That's why I should go. Somebody else might be able to fill my shoes." I tell him.
"Do you really want to go that much? You know He might not want you to go. You should talk to Him before making your decision." He says. I know I said that it was probably the dumbest thing I would ever do when I raised my hand earlier but that's not what I was referring to. See, I had already communicated with Him and He told me to go.
"He already told me to go. I got called earlier this morning. I am leaving as soon as this meeting is adjourned." They all turn and glare at me.
"Meeting adjourned." Michael growls out.'
"So yeah. My brothers hated me. I never actually understood why because talking to the "big man" is not as uncommon as he thought it was. I wasn't actually anything special." I tell him. He nods and writes down a few notes.
"You mentioned the name Lucifer in your story. Did you know him well?" He questions. I let out yet another short laugh.
"It was difficult not to know him. His hatred of humans was crazy and I'm surprised that he didn't get cast out sooner. He was the one that hated me the most and he went out of his way to show me that." I tell him.
"But I thought angels couldn't feel those kinds of emotions." He says. I nod.
"We have a choice. We can decide whether we want our emotions turned off or whether to leave them on. I decided to leave my emotions on because I didn't like the thought of being a robot but my first mission showed me why most angels decide to shut down instead." I explain. He nods again.
"When was the last time you saw your brother Lucifer?" He asks. I smile and shake my head.
"Right after the meeting before I left Heaven to go on my mission. Boy he was pissed at me and it was really funny. Would you like to hear the rest of the story?" I ask him and he nods enthusiastically again.
'I got up to leave the room when I suddenly get slammed against the wall. Lucifer is standing in front of me with his hands on my shirt collar.
"Why do you get to be so special? You shouldn't get to be the one who can actually talk to him. I am the highest and most revered angel yet he talks to you, a weakling!" He yells in my face.
"Look, I don't want to fight about this. You can move up and fill my shoes." I say trying to calm him down.
"I don't want to fill your shoes. I want to start a war. I'll do that by getting as close to Him as I can and then I will try to overthrow him with my choir right behind me." He tells me. I nod at his plan.
"Good luck with that and I'll see you in The Pit." I tell him as I push him off of me and start to walk out the door.
"You are the first of the fallen angels, Sebastien. You just don't know it yet. It's a trick. There's no way the people in the pit can be redeemed." He yells at my back. I feel a smile spread across my face as I walk toward my house to pack my belongings.'
"He said that you were the first of the fallen angels? Is that true? Are you fallen?" He asks. I shake my head.
"No. I will tell you more once we get into the questions about my time in The Pit. Let's continue with questions about my time in Heaven." I tell him. He nods his head and bites the end of his pen trying to think of his next question.
