Chapter 2: Letters (Mikage)

"Teito!" I shouted to my friend. He barely managed to dodge the attack and I ran forward, activating my Zaiphon as I did. I jumped and fired it at the holographic enemy's head. He blocked it with his arm then hit me and sent me across the room.

"Mikage!" Teito ran over to me and helped me up. "Are you alright?" He asked, an odd touch of concern in his eyes. I nodded with a smile.

"Just fine." I said. A roar made me look up. My eyes widened as the big enemy swung at Teito and I and we had no where to go.

Teito reacted first, casting a shield over the two of us but that wouldn't last long. There was a streak of black on my right followed by a flash of silver and white at the back of the enemy's head. He collapsed at our feet and shattered.

Shira rolled as she landed and I smiled at her. "Thanks." I said.

"Sure." She nodded and took off after our next opponent, a bird. I looked at Teito and noticed a funny look in his eyes.

"Everything okay?" I asked him.

"Fine." He said. "Let's get this over with." He added gloomily. I watched him as he ran forward before I decided to follow, but the look in his eyes was bothering me.

"Ah, Shira. I've been looking all over for you." A voice called from behind us. It was sly, not friendly, and put me on edge. Teito tensed up as well.

"What can I do for you?" Shira asked politely as we turned. No surprise, it was Shuri Oak.

"I was wondering why someone who's at least as classy as myself is hanging around with a butler and a slave?" Shuri said. Shira glanced between us and shrugged.

"Having a high social class and being classy are very different. You may have a high class, but you're not classy you're a jerk. Teito and Mikage may not have social class but at least they're classy. See ya." Shira turn and started to walk away with us following.

Shuri looked shocked to say the least and I kept my eye on him. Zaiphon appeared around his hand and he launched it at Shira. "Look out!" I cried. Shira turned and her eyes widened.

Someone leapt between them and blocked it. He straightened up as maybe six others landed around Shuri. "Now, now, why did you try to attack the missis?" The first boy asked. Shira sighed and held the bridge her nose annoyed.

"Missis?" Shuri asked looking between them.

"Yes. We are Miss Shiroka's personal guard." The boy announced. Shira looked ready to just walk away.

"Her personal guard? Why?" Shuri asked. "If she got in she's got to be able to handle herself." He said dismissively.

The other boy looked insulted. "You mean let miss Shiroka fight?" He asked.

"What if she got hurt?" One of the others said quietly. They all murmured in agreement and Shira's expression looked pained.

"Not a chance. We protect her, that's our job." The boy said.

"Given by who?" Shira asked.

"Self assigned miss Shiroka." The main boy said.

"I've told you countless times, Daisuke, to call me Shira. No miss, no honorific, just Shira." She said.

"But that would be... I can't even say how wrong that would be!" Daisuke said. Shira sighed.

"Whatever, you two can figure this out." Shira turned and walked away. Teito was a step ahead of her and I quickly caught up.

"Who was that?" I asked Shira.

"Who, the guy that called me 'missis'?" Shira asked.

"Yep, him." I nodded excitedly.

"Daisuke. He formed my 'Guard' incase anyone tries to attack me at school like Oak just did. It's a pain." Shira sighed. "I've got to run. See you around." She said. Teito and I nodded and she ran off.

"See you, Shira!" I called as I waved. She waved once before disappearing around a corner. "So, Tieto, what should we..." I looked around for my friend but he had vanished. "Do?" I finished to myself. I sighed and shrugged. "Whatever." I said, deciding I would go study.

"Alright I give." I surrendered. Teito removed the Zaiphon from around my neck. "How do you keep beating me?" I asked.

"Because you need practice." Teito replied. I sighed and slid to the ground.

"Hey, you okay, Mikage?" I turned to see Shira standing nearby. She had just finished putting on the uniform tie, telling me she was probably practicing.

"Yep." I replied brightly. She nodded and started off when suddenly a piece of paper flew by. She caught it easily, despite how fast it moved. "Impressive." I said as I stood.

"Thanks." Shira said before turning to the envelope. Teito and I walked closer so we could see it as well. "Classified?" She muttered.

"Strange." Teito added, looking at the unmistakable red 'classified' stamp. Shira flipped it over and we all froze at the crest on the back.

"The Black Hawks?" Shira said. We all looked at each other.

"What should we do?" I asked.

"Return it. As long as this seal isn't broken we can't get into trouble." Shira said. "I can take it myself, you guys don't need to get involved." Shia offered.

"Are you sure?" Teito asked. She nodded.

"Of course. That's what friends are for." Shira said with a smile before she ran off.

"Should we just let her go, Teito?" I asked him.

"If she doesn't want to get us involved she's probably got a good reason." Teito said. "I think we should just head to the dorms." He said.

"Okay..." I agreed hesitantly. I glanced back a few times as we headed towards the dorms. "I hope she'll be okay." I thought.
