"Okay, all you have to do is sneak into Bella's room, find her stupid baby toy teddy bear, and bring us back his head."
"What if I get caught?"
I fold my arms
across my chest.
"Lora, stop being such a pussy.
Do you want to be a Sigma Nu
or not?"
"Yeah, but..."
"No buts, go!"
We watch Lora as she climbs down the window. "Watch your head!" Alice shouts from behind us. Too late, Lora hits her head on the window support. The girls snicker behind me. I laugh, too, praying that she can't hear.
Lora looks painfully suspicious as she sneaks across the street. I'm almost positive that the other dorms are going to call the police. Oh.
We watch her as she tumbles through Bella's open window. Our side goes quiet. We can hear each other's beating hearts.
Someone whispers, "Holy shit, I didn't think she'd actually do it!"
"Same!"
The seconds tick by suspensefully. Did she get caught? Was Delta Pi expecting it? Oh god, they'll eat her up alive.
Tick tock. "I think one of us should go over there..." Alice whispers.
"No, give her a minute."
We wait patiently. Finally the curtain rustles. We hold our breaths.
A small object flies out the window. It lands under the streetlight.
It's the teddy bear head.
Lora sneaks back over. Courtney lets her in through the front door. We all congratulate her as she enters the room.
"Welcome to Sigma Nu!" We all shout in unison. And the lights in the Delta Pi room across the street turn on.
