"I see the look in your eyes, I know you're thirsting for blood."

D A I S Y

Two am. Two am.

It was freezing cold- my heart beat wildly against my chest and I shook my fingers out to try and warm them. Then he appeared- like some kind of shadow, made of darkness.

'Aurora,' he said, his voice silky and smooth- like it always was. 'You wanted to meet me?'

'I was talking to Camille,' I said slowly. 'She was- intrigued- by the idea of a vampire and a Seelie in love. When she heard it was you-'

I shivered, and Raphael started forwards, before pausing, remembering he was cold as ice. Cold as ice because he was dead.

'She told me some interesting things,' I said, feeling my hands shaking. I put them inside my pockets, trying to hold in some warmth. 'Very interesting.'

Raphael's eyes darkened. 'Camille is a witch,' he said. 'Don't believe anything she says.'

'Do you want to know what she said?' I asked. Raphael didn't move, just watched me with those huge dark predatory eyes. 'She said you were killing humans. Humans. Feeding on their blood and then just- just leaving them- not drinking animal blood like I thought you were, killing humans.'

'And you believed her?' Raphael asked.

'I don't know!' I said angrily. 'She- if she's lying, she's a very experienced liar, but she could also be telling the truth- I want to trust you, Raphael, I do, but there's just... Something. Something's been off with you for a while. And you aren't even saying anything to me. I don't know what to believe- I know you lie easily, just as she does...'

Silence.

'Have you, Raphael?' I asked, feeling as if my heart was shaking. 'Have you killed humans?'

'No,' he said. 'No. You know me, Aurora, and you know I wouldn't- or, at least, I thought you knew me. I've told you things about me that I haven't told anyone else- you know about my family, about Magnus, about running over graves just so I could manage to speak the name of God. And you know I wouldn't kill anyone. Or, at least, I thought you did.'

I let out a shuddering breath, relief swamping me in a huge wave. 'Oh, thank- Raphael-'

'No.' His eyes were dark moonlight, cold and unforgiving. 'I can't. Why would you think that? You know I wouldn't- I couldn't-'

'I had to check, Raphael,' I argued. 'I had to check.'

'I don't care. I honestly don't care.' He turned away, and I reached out, forgetting the anger and pain I'd seen on his face, just thinking I had to make him understand, and he spun around, knocking me backwards- by accident or on purpose, I don't know- and my wing caught on something, I don't know what, and pain erupted on my wing, tendrils of flame ripping me apart.

When I cried out, it was raw and desperate and more animal than any noise I had ever made before.

Raphael turned around, but I was already up and running. Running as far and as fast as I could go, knowing that he could have found me and chased me and helped me if he wanted too, but he didn't.

Nothing came after me as I ran, crying and gasping for breath with half my wing torn away.

So I didn't try to find Raphael again.
