Chapter Ten

      Buzz.

      Buzz.

      Buzz.

I wake up by the sound of my cell phone vibrating loudly on the nightstand beside the bed. I open my eyes as I turn my head, looking for the stupid devise that is making the annoying sound. My finger wrap around the cool metal and I put it to my ear, pressing the green button.

“Hello?” I say, but I comes out more of a groan as I lay back onto Blythe’s bed, shutting my eyes and throwing my other arm over them. My head beginning to pound slightly.

“It’s about god damned time you answered! I have been calling you for like an hour! Your lucky my aunt has already bailed me out and I don’t only have one phone call or I would have been pissed.” I hear him say and I can’t help but smile at his words and the sound of his voice.

“Well now, it’s about time they let you out, how long has it been since you have walked the streets as a free man Blythe? Ten years?”

“Ten hours you ass. Now get out of my bed and get down here. The others are eyeing me like a piece of meat, I don’t know how much longer I can keep my hand protecting my ass Jen.” He says worriedly and I laugh, sitting up and then regretting it when I open my eyes and the room spins. I shut them quickly and the laughing stops, I put my hand to my head and take a deep breath.

“Be there in a little bit.” I tell him, pulling the phone away from my ear, the sound of his voice floating to my ears as I hit the red button, ending the call.

I sit on the edge of his bed a few more minutes, massaging my temples with my eyes shut.

Today was going to be one rough day.

I throw a mint into my mouth along with my sunglasses as I open the door of the Jeep and begin across the parking lot of the police station. I open one of the doors that is labled pull and walk inside, the cold air hitting my skin.

I walk to the front desk and look at the guy behind the counter. When he sees me his eyebrows raise slightly and I force a sly smile.

“I’m here to pick up Blythe Roberts.” I tell him and he nods, pulling slightly at the walkie-talking that is clipped to the shoulder of his uniform and speaks into it, telling someone named Tim to bring Roberts to the front.

“He’ll be in here shortly.” He nods and I turn away and walk to the lobby part of the room. There are plastic chairs, some holding the worrying and angry faces of parents, parents of some of the teens that were at the party last night and didn’t get away. I smile slightly but then my eyes lands on one person in particular and I freeze.

Amy sits by herself in one of the chairs, her eyes on the floor, his hands fiddling in her lap. She doesn’t look up at me, instead she continues to look to the floor, her eyes dazed with thought.

“It’s about freaking time you got here!” he says loudly and I look up, finding Blythe standing in front of me and I smile. Some of the parents look up at us and roll their eyes. I ignore them and find myself looking to the black eye that is fading to a green and yellow now.

“I thought your Aunt already bailed you out?” I say as he walks towards the doors, me close behind.

“She did, but she didn’t take me home. She wanted to get a good laugh at me sitting there until you woke up.” He says, irritation clear in his tone and I smile.
